Senior Storage Engineer
Role Value Proposition:
MetLife's Global Information Technology Organization (GITO) is growing and requires a Senior Storage Engineer to lead, innovate, and build upon the large storage infrastructure portfolio. As a storage team member, they will lead efforts to drive efficiency, standards, and automation into the environment while utilizing innovative methods to enable robust services and ensure stable operations of the Global IT storage infrastructure. Will bring a strong background in enterprise data protection, management and protection solutions. Must be able to design and implement new data protection solutions, manage change, and add backup policies in a large-scale, mission critical, multi-PB storage environment.
Core team member supporting MetLife cyber defense response efforts with a focus on data protection and recovery.
Provide leadership in a global deployment of MetLife next generation data protection solution. Engage in end to end recovery testing, initiate table-top exercise around recovery from ransomware event
The primary focus of this role is data protection technologies such as Rubik Cloud Data Management Platform, Data Domain, Avamar/Networker. Solution architecture leveraging public cloud platforms for recovery scenarios. Contribute to efforts in process improvement leveraging automation and Code as a Service technologies.
The secondary focus of this role is maintenance and support of Dell storage technologies such as PowerMax, Isilon, ECS, XtremIO, SnapVX, Appsync, VMWare VSAN/Cloud Foundation and Cisco/Brocade storage directors.
Demonstrate domain knowledge in storage, data management and data protection technologies and be able apply the knowledge of these methodologies to the storage, protection, retention, reclamation, and disaster recovery.
Report on performance and capacities and make allocation recommendations based on trending; participate in capacity planning and performance discussions and assist in development and execution of disaster recovery exercises. Participates in incident analysis and provides root cause updates to management; leads the analysis and resolution of reoccurring incidents, implements, and provides proactive monitoring/analysis to help prevent problems before they occur.
Provide tier four support to internal and vendor solutions
Deliver engineering specifications, assist with functional specifications, and collaborate on technical designs and specifications for projects and initiatives.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
6+ years of progressive work experience in enterprise storage and protection.
Proven experience in designing, maintaining, and managing enterprise storage and backup systems.
Strong consulting skills with an ability to work closely with stakeholders to go beyond “what” they require and focus on “why” such that expectations are met.
Estimate effort, both development and product delivery timelines, to determine a course of action for project.
Provide technical or business analytical leadership for specific storage and backup needs or objectives to meet business requirements.
Work closely with external vendors and other personnel to optimize and facilitate the best solution to meet the needs of the business.
Develop recommendations in support of project objectives. Develop logical and physical technical artifacts for review.
Resolve complex problems with little or no guidance. Independently research and promote specialized technical solutions.
Proven experience managing multi-site environments across a global footprint.
Experience working with third party resources on large projects, ideally in a matrixed environment.
Certification in public cloud solutions
Skills with scripting and/or automation technologies.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field and/or relevant industry certifications
Ideal candidate is SAFe certified and is familiar with the NIST Cybersecurity framework
