Garmin Senior Design Engineer (Outdoor) in Cary, North Carolina

We are looking for a full-time Senior Design Engineer to join our Outdoor Team in Olathe, KS OR in Cary, NC. Our Outdoor Team works on a wide variety of products ranging from wearables, golf, hiking, laser range finders, and more.\n\nIn this role, you will design and develop moderately complex electronic circuits, test equipment, and systems for use in consumer products. You will lead electrical development; collaborating with other engineering disciplines, and with support from mentors and management. Other essential functions include:\n\n\n\tDesign, test, and supervise manufacturing of analog, digital and RF electrical systems for consumer electronics, including both printed and flexible circuit boards.\n\tServe as a Project Engineer on new products that involve new designs or major changes to existing designs\n\tWork with Production, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, and Software Engineering teams to ensure robust designs and efficient manufacturing\n\tValidate RF performance and make design adjustments as needed to ensure best performance. Manage tradeoffs between GNSS, Bluetooth/BLE, WiFi, NFC performance requirements\n\tCollaborate and add value through participation in design reviews, providing comments on electrical design aspects and other engineering areas\n\tEvaluate new technologies as they apply to existing functions\n\tParticipate in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents\n\tWork closely with software engineering and IC manufacturers to bring up new processors, qualify new PMICs, memory, and other components\n\tPartner with Mechanical Engineers to design best PCB solution accounting for RF and space constraints\n\tMake substantial contributions toward determination of project goals\n\tMentor and provide guidance to less experienced Design Engineers\n\tContribute to advanced technical research on new technologies\n\tIndependently determine general approach and specific solutions to technical problems\n\tOffer process improvement suggestions and author new procedures as appropriate\n\tPlan and develop experimental test programs to verify compliance to all applicable regulations and quality guidelines\n\tAnalyze test data and reports to determine if the proposed design meets functional and performance specifications\n\tSupport production facilities in the manufacture of products\n Qualified candidates possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from a four-year college or university AND a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience. Other requirements include:\n\n\n\tDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills\n\tMust demonstrate proficiency with a complicated schematic and PCB design consisting of one or more PCB’s \n\tBroad technical knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Electrical Engineering (e.g., analog, digital, RF, and/or DSP)\n\tExtensive circuit design experience for consumer or aviation products is highly preferred!\n\n\nGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
