The Opportunity
The Director of Platform Engineering is responsible for leading the strategy, design, and implementation of the MetLife’s Azure Cloud, AI, and Identity Access Management (IAM) platform. They will oversee a team of engineers and architects to build scalable, reliable, and secure platform services that enable rapid application development and deployment.
How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)
Develop a comprehensive plan for transitioning to a new IAM solution.
Manage the application implementation, testing, and rollout of the new IAM system integration.
Ensure a smooth transition and minimal disruption to business operations
Lead end-to-end migration and optimization of platform services to Azure cloud, ensuring cost-effectiveness and security compliance.
Drive cloud-native development practices and infrastructure modernization while implementing DevOps best practices for scalable, efficient operations.
Implement data integration and data management solutions to ensure data quality, consistency, and traceability
Establish and oversee secure software development and deployment practices using DevSecOps principles.
Ensure security, compliance, and risk management are integrated throughout the software development lifecycle.
Implement tools and processes for continuous monitoring, testing, and remediation of vulnerabilities.
Enhance platform capabilities by identifying high-impact AI/ML use cases, building robust data infrastructure, and continuously improving AI models and applications.
Ensure ethical and responsible AI practices by establishing governance frameworks, implementing fairness and transparency measures, and fostering a culture of AI innovation and adoption.
Evaluate and pilot the use of AI-powered coding assistants like GitHub Copilot to boost developer productivity.
Implement API management tooling and processes to control access, monitor usage, enforce policies, and automate testing, deployment, and monitoring to ensure reliability and scalability.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, prioritize, and address engineering challenges
Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of platform engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
15+ years of experience in software engineering, platform architecture, or DevSecOps leadership roles.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
Proven track record of driving engineering capabilities in Cloud (Azure), Data, AI, and DevSecOps domains.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Technical expertise in languages, frameworks, and tools used in modern software development.
Extensive knowledge of cloud infrastructure, particularly in the Microsoft Azure ecosystem, including IaC, containerization, and serverless computing.
Deep understanding of data modeling techniques, database design, and data integration patterns.
Proven track record of leading successful technology transformations in the insurance or financial services industry.
