COLONY MANAGER/STUDY COORDINATOR, McGovern Institute for Brain Research, to coordinate the animal research study needs for a dozen researchers who work collaboratively to better understand the genetic underpinnings of brain disorders and manage a large breeding colony of common marmosets to support that work. The marmoset breeding colony at MIT is a state-of-the-art resource for the generation of transgenic marmoset models and pioneering genetic therapy for brain disorders. Will work closely with the research teams and animal resources staff to set priorities for research procedures and breeding needs and will play an integral role in formulating and executing plans to meet those needs; take primary responsibility for managing the breeding records for the colony; and work closely with and act as a liaison between teams of research technicians, veterinary staff, and animal husbandry staff.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a B.S. in animal or pre-veterinary science, biology, anthropology, psychology, genetics, zoology, or a related field; two years of experience, including experience working with animals in a research setting; excellent communication and organizational skills; meticulous attention to detail; ability to be punctual, work relatively independently, juggle multiple tasks, and prioritize own time and the time of others; and strong computer skills. PREFERRED: some management or supervisory experience and experience working with nonhuman primates in a research setting.
