    Job Description

SENIOR HUMAN RESOURCES (HR) ASSISTANT, Biological Engineering (BE) (part-time, 25 hrs/wk.), to perform a variety of complex and diverse duties and transactions in support of BE’s human resources activities. Will advise and assist faculty and staff on general HR matters, policies, and procedures, referring more complex inquiries as necessary; process a variety of HR transactions (e.g., postdoctoral, visitor, staff, and affiliate appointments) and coordinate with Payroll as needed; prepare new hire paperwork and process appointments, ensuring a smooth transition and onboarding for new hires according to established guidelines; collect and coordinate the completion of the necessary paperwork for appointment extensions and terminations; interface with temp agencies and track temporary employees; oversee the BE visiting student program; track expiring visas and coordinate new visa applications and renewals with the International Scholars Office (ISchO); review and approve weekly timesheets for students and employees; handle and maintain the department’s confidential personnel files; and perform other duties as assigned. Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; five years of HR experience; proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word and Excel; excellent organizational, problem-solving, customer service, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; initiative and self-motivation; flexible approach to responsibilities and ability to adapt to changing work conditions/assignments; and sound judgment and discretion with confidential, highly sensitive, and personal information. Must be able to work and seek out answers and/or resources independently and take responsibility for own actions, follow through on tasks, and collaborate as part of a team. PREFERRED: bachelor’s degree in HR management, communications, or a related field; and MIT experience.
