What You Will Achieve

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU). The key strategic focus area within the IMRU at Pfizer is identifying novel therapies to prevent or treat chronic diseases associated with diabetes or the metabolic syndrome including obesity, renal disease and heart failure. Our goal is to build a world class research team of dedicated scientists committed to developing a deep mechanistic understanding of the metabolic pathways underlying disease pathogenesis.

As a member of the metabolic biology team, we are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to interrogate novel mechanisms of energy metabolism in cardiometabolic diseases. The successful candidate must be able to independently drive their research project as well as collaborate effectively with a wide spectrum of scientific partners representing diverse disciplines. Knowledge and experience in the study of metabolic pathways is essential and familiarity with the pathophysiology of dysmetabolic states would be advantageous.She/he will have daily interactions with a team of creative and innovative scientists, working in a supportive environment to conduct rigorous scientific and drug discovery research. Strong self-motivation, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to both lead as well as work as part of a team are essential.

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Plan and execute in vivo/ ex vivo/ in vitro laboratory experiments independently (includingexperimental design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation).

  • Develop relevant metabolic assays to understand changes in energy generation that occur in kidney disease.

  • Quantify and translate experimental results to advance the understanding of how metabolic pathways and complex physiological systems are altered by disease and how they respond to therapeutic interventions.

  • Presentresearch findings toPfizer colleagues andthe scientific community through publications in peer-reviewed journals andtalks and postersat scientific meetings.

  • Ensure all tasks and responsibilities are carried out according to scientific and ethical standards.
