    Job Description

IT SPECIALIST, Chemical Engineering (ChemE), to manage a wide range of hardware and software technology, network, and services while providing proactive and effective technical support and planning to a diverse customer base. Responsibilities include offsite and onsite incident response, troubleshooting, network management, project management, new technology deployment strategizing, knowledge management, file server administration and management, and vendor relationship management. Will support all computing devices for staff, faculty, and department-issued graduate student laptops, their associated software, and communications technologies; manage the undergrad PC cluster and other application or infrastructure services; handle all system upgrades and serve as the primary interface with IT services outsourced to central IT (IS&T) and outside vendors; develop expertise in both Mac and Windows systems and offer a wide range of troubleshooting and consultation services; act as a trusted advisor on technology needs and serve as the main face-to-face on-premise customer support for technologies used by the ChemE community; and collaborate on developing best practices in endpoint management, including device procurement, configuration, and deployment.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; three years’ experience supporting hybrid Windows and Macintosh environments; strong technical diagnostic skills; comprehensive knowledge of networking technologies, especially pertaining to system connectivity and troubleshooting; excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to convey technical information in non-technical terms, multitask, prioritize, and manage time while ensuring attention to detail and accuracy, and operate both independently and in a team-oriented environment; knowledge of service management principles, processes, and tools; diplomacy; and experience in academic settings and familiarity with academic calendars.
