Posting Description
DIRECTOR, CONFERENCE SERVICES, Institute Affairs, to direct logistics, personnel, and finances related to the planning and execution of a wide range of activities, held on and off the MIT campus; oversee all aspects of the event planning process, working with clients from a wide cross-section of the MIT community and from sponsored outside organizations; customize proposals and agreements; collaborate and negotiate with service providers to obtain the best and most cost-effective services; clarify insurance requirements and other terms of conference services agreement for organizers and outside organizations to help them achieve compliance; supervise and mentor a team of four, fostering individual creativity, collaboration, and professional growth and development; provide strategic and operational leadership in revenue generation, identifying new opportunities to boost business; manage the annual office budget and multi-year planning processes, ongoing financial reporting and analysis, accounting controls and operations, and payroll administration; work closely with the Financial Coordinator to report on revenue projections; and represent Conference Services with outside organizations.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of eight years of experience in event management, preferably in a non-profit or higher education environment; demonstrated record of leadership and achievement in event or project management and delivering event resources in a diverse, complex environment; experience in successfully managing event staff and teams; knowledge of current trends, issues, and benchmarks in meeting planning; experience building and maintaining effective internal and external partnerships and collaborations; ability to develop creative solutions and meet project deadlines in a high-pressure work environment; and demonstrated evidence of excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
