Biogen Associate Director, Global Strategic Forecasting - Rare Disease in Cambridge, Massachusetts

About This Role

Global Strategic Forecasting is an advisory group to senior leadership within Biogen that drives strategic decisions and planning for in-line and pipeline products across multiple therapeutic categories using forecast models and insights to inform recommendations.

You will play a critical role in Biogen’s future success by leading global strategic forecasting for one of Biogen’s core growth pillars, as a highly visible interface with senior and executive leadership globally and cross functionally. You work with global leaders playing a proactive role in assessing the commercial strategy for Biogen’s key brands, work with senior management on confidential assessments and deals to support decisions and lead the creation of best-in-class forecasts.

You are responsible for global long-term forecasts and you will help guide insights on how opportunities/threats may impact enterprise performance and help to guide the short- and long-term strategy through efficient scenario planning. You will help drive insight generation to support critical assumptions. You will assess life cycle management initiatives and business development opportunities to define their potential impact. You will support Biogen’s most important late stage and inline assets, including market evolution, competitive landscape, target strategic segments and where needed patient flow dynamics.

This role reports to the Head of Global Customer & Market Insights.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and refine the forecasting modes for therapeutic areas/assets within Biogen’s portfolio and continually improve the scope and accuracy (e.g., simulation of complex market dynamics and patient flows, development and communication of good forecasting practices)

  • Generate insights that help refine global Biogen strategies for in-line / pipeline Biogen product(s) through creative targeted analyses of internal Biogen data, primary and secondary data that assess prospective strategic levers and potential risks and opportunities

  • Act as a strategic thought partner and provide content expertise and problem-solving to very senior Corporate customers (e.g., CFO, EVP of Commercial, Global Asset and Regional Leads, etc.) helping to shape key strategic decisions for brands and/or franchises

  • Present the global strategic forecast narrative to senior executives for assigned brand(s) and/or market for Biogen’s annual long-range planning process

  • Act as a central point of expertise driving collaboration for regional forecasting and insights offering guidance on key strategic questions

  • Provide context and forecasting support to cross-functional partners (e.g., Finance) to ensure the potential impact of Commercial Biogen strategies are well understood and planned for

  • Advance Forecasting at Biogen to leverage innovative new technologies for more effective ways of working

Who You Are

You love forecasting and are passionate about using data to guide key strategic business decisions, including business growth. You love learning new therapy areas, working in a cross functional environment creating strong collaborations and engaging with senior leadership. 

  • BA/BS required

  • Minimum of 7 years strategic consulting experience in Pharma / Biotech / Medical Device industry or relevant experience

  • Prior experience in a global strategic forecasting role

  • Strong business acumen & communication skills and ability to work with and present to senior executives

  • Great strategic problem-solving skills, leading structured thinking around complex problems to enable data-driven decision-making

  • Experience in global markets; understanding of local market dynamics and data sources

  • Highly collaborative; must be able to navigate, manage the needs and drive effective partnerships with individuals and teams across the organization

Preferred Skills

  • MBA/MS/PhD in Life Sciences, Bioengineering, Engineering, Mathematics or Statistics

  • Proven knowledge and proficiency in forecast modeling platforms and tools. Excel proficiency is required. Previous use of patient flow or related complex models.

  • Curiosity about how to leverage innovative technologies for forecasting 

  • Experience using secondary data

  • Experience managing competitive intelligence or market research projects
