Job Description Summary

Under general direction acts as a subject matter expert and leader for assigned program, region, zone, segment or product lines. Provides direction and leadership to aid in developing the effective and efficient implementation of Business and Specialty Insurance Product and Underwriting strategies as well capability development, enhancement, and maintenance.

Works in collaboration with program leaders to monitor, research, and develop ways to improve the current platform and/or business capability in partnership with Underwriting Office and Program teams and aligns with Business as necessary.

Responsible for leading CURE and audit processes as assigned. Ensure underwriting results for book of business enhance overall profitability, growth and retention of business and are consistent with all related underwriting initiatives.

Educates key stakeholders as required on Product& Platform and Underwriting strategy and guidelines.

Other duties as assigned.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • (May include all or the majority but not limited to these components):

  • Responsible for taking on varied Program roles as project work develops including in Product Owner and SME capacities and leading initiatives that promote profitable growth, platform efficiencies, and worldwide cooperation and consistency

  • Involved in setting strategy for rate adequacy, product and pricing within assigned region or segment to achieve maximum earnings.

  • May provide input into the development of strategic business planning activities to ensure underwriting philosophy and practices for zone/region/segment/product line are consistent with business unit goals.

  • Is involved in monitoring trends, emerging issues and underwriting results for the book of business. May partner with field management to take action as needed.

  • Supports any program related initiatives in assisting building requirements aligned with business strategy based on program timelines as required.

  • Participates in training, initiatives. May participate in projects.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 6 years of underwriting experience required.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

  • 7+ years of underwriting experience preferred experience in Business and or Speciality Insurance preferred.

  • Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, Information Technology, Risk Management/Insurance preferred.

  • Project Management, Guidewire, and Agile Delivery Methodology experience preferred

Licensing or Certificates

  • CIP or FCIP designation preferred.

Job Specific Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Prior people management experience and/or program, product or underwriting experience is typical.

  • Advanced knowledge of commercial insurance product, underwriting and/or platform.

  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.

  • Ability to build teams and leverage team to attain goals.

  • Ability to effectively influence and work collaboratively in a cross functional team oriented environment.

  • Exceptional quantitative reasoning and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong ability to build and leverage internal and external partnerships.

  • Ability to work independently, meeting or exceeding established deadlines.

  • Strong presentation development and delivery skills; able to customize delivery to audience.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint and overall computer navigation.
