Job Description:

Would you enjoy working closely with other Designer/Drafters and Engineers to ensure a coordinated design? Parsons is now hiring a Principal Designer for our rapidly expanding portfolio of projects. Our extensive experience in this field combined with your design knowledge and technical skills will propel your career forward.

We need our Designers at this level to complete the most complex and difficult designs and layouts for complete systems and components of a project. In this role you will complete highly technical, difficult, and complex design assignments within one discipline, generally utilizing either 2D or 3D CAD methods. Technical skills gained from education/training and experience over many years enable you to work independently and complete the most demanding design assignments. Principal Designers may serve a s Lead Designer on a small-to-medium sized project.

Responsibilities:

Completes the most complex and difficult designs and layouts for complete systems and components of a project. Assignments typically involve design elements for which there may be no clearly established precedents and require anticipation of problems at the outset in order to provide appropriate solutions.

Performs front-end layout and design of complex systems and equipment applicable to the respective discipline.

Ensures compliance with required specifications, tolerances, safety factors, and client requirements.

Performs specialized design computations and analysis within a given discipline.

Performs interdisciplinary reviews and provides coordination of data to ensure a compatible design.

Understands and applies commonly used company design standards and methods.

May assist in the establishment or revision of guidelines and standards.

Reviews supplier data and supplier/manufacturer drawings, as required.

Checks orthographic (2D) and isometric (3D) drawings prepared by others.

May provide direction to a team of checking personnel, ensuring the mathematical accuracy of the drawings produced.

Collaborates with engineers and other engineering disciplines to ensure quality of design.

Assists in training lower-level Designers in various procedures.

May serve as Lead Designer on a project, ensuring compliance with industry codes, as well as project and company standards.

May prepare manpower estimates, as required.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications:

Associate's or equivalent technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter course (or equivalent) is preferred

10+ years of relevant experience

Job leadership experience would be helpful

Requirements include strong PC and CAD skills, as well as efficiency in utilizing computer software to complete design assignments.
