What You’ll Be Doing
The Energy, Infrastructure, & Transition (“EIT”) team provides investment banking services to existing and prospective clients in the renewable and conventional power, utilities, midstream, upstream energy, infrastructure, energy transition and climate technology sectors. The team has a global coverage strategy across North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Australia. Our client-centric approach incorporates M&A and other financial advisory services with full access to the debt, equity and loan capital markets. The team also delivers complex risk and hedging solutions to clients. The EIT team manages a market leading platform from our offices in Toronto, New York, Houston, Calgary, London and Bogota.
The Calgary-based EIT Investment Banking office specifically focuses on a broad range of energy and infrastructure clients that operate in the following sectors: oil and gas, pipelines, midstream energy infrastructure, renewable and thermal power, utilities, and energy transition / climate-tech. We support these clients with strategic advice, equity and debt fundraising, and corporate finance advisory services such as mergers and acquisitions.
With guidance from Managing Directors, Executive Directors, Directors, or Associates, you will complete assignments that impact the firm's bottom line through transaction and financing execution, client relationship support, industry and company research, and contributing to the overall communication flow across our global offices. The role provides you with steep learning and an ability to observe and influence the strategic direction of our clients’ businesses with exposure to company executives and board of directors.

How You’ll Succeed
Research and Analysis - Conduct industry research and quantitative analysis to create and direct complex financial analysis and models while extracting the “big picture” implications of such analysis to assist in the identification and/or analysis of investment banking business opportunities
Proposal - Play a key role in the preparation of client proposals, “pitchbooks” and the execution of new and existing client mandates. Prepare industry and financial analysis to assist with the development of client recommendations
Financial Modeling - Develop and audit sophisticated financial models
Relationship Building – Grow your internal and external networks by coordinating client-focused and/or deal-focused “brainstorming” sessions with relevant team members and product specialists. Developing relationships and actively communicating with various appropriate contacts within CIBC’s product groups, at our clients or other external networks (i.e. key stakeholders, prospects, etc.)
Due Diligence - Assist in company due diligence investigations
Support - Support senior investment banking colleagues and maintain the group’s databases on a current basis
Who You Are
You are a recent graduate (no later than Dec. 2024) or are currently working in investment banking, corporate finance, private equity, project financing, tax equity, investment review or other related industry
You have a degree in finance, accounting, mathematics, computer science or economics undergraduate degree . Completion of and/or intention to complete a CA or CFA, is preferred
You can demonstrate relevant capital markets and industry experience. You have a keen interest in pursuing a career in the financial services industry demonstrated through related work experience ininvestment banking, corporate finance, private equity, project financing, tax equity, or investment review; or school courses, clubs and/or other related work experience. Working knowledge of the power/renewables, utilities, infrastructure, midstream, and/or energy transition sectors as well as direct investment banking experience are assets
You have relevant financial skills. Excellent analytical ability including demonstrated knowledge of valuation techniques and practices, including cash flow and returns analyses. Knowledge of accounting principles relating to financial statement preparation and business combinations
You are success-oriented. Extremely dedicated and motivated individual with high career aspirations. Must be capable of assuming high levels of responsibility within short time frames. Success to you is helping solve and execute on the complex financial and strategic needs of our clients
You possess technical skills. Strong quantitative technical skills as it relates to basic computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), industry technology (FactSet, Bloomberg) and other applicable software
