Job Purpose

Develop and manage Transmission & Distribution Operational Expense plan aligned to company, state, and regulatory ambitions. Work with key stakeholders to ensure the plan is executable through strategic risk identification and mitigation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Work closely with Finance, Operations, Resource Planning, and Reporting and Analytics to develop and maintain short-term and long-term operational expense budgets.

  • Understand reporting and data sources to build budgets that align to strategic priorities and asset management strategies. • Ensure plans and underlying projects are executable through cashflow and schedule analysis, work in tandem with long-term resource planning counterparts to ensure we have appropriate resource strategy to meet plan demands.

  • Develop underlying in-fiscal year budgeting and support identification of efficiencies.

  • Build bottom-up budget that marries up with top-down financial model.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with Capital investment portfolio to optimize Capex and Opex strategies.

  • Leverage and enhance PowerBI Dashboard capabilities to provide Operational transparency and monthly reporting structure.

  • Identify and articulate expense trends and patterns to leadership in order to inform Operational and potentially Capital investment budgets.

  • Diligent data analysis with ability to inform strategic decisions for the NY-Electric business unit.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree plus a minimum of three years’ experience in a professional finance, business or engineering field or equivalent experience

• High level of numerical reasoning ability and understanding of statistical techniques and systems

• Technical/Professional qualification with theoretical knowledge and understanding of National Grid’s policies and processes and how to apply them effectively.

• Strong analytical skills and an understanding of basic utility accounting, finance, and regulatory principles.

• Proven expertise in the design and delivery of statistical modeling techniques to analyze the impact of technical and supply/demand changes on processes and plans.

• Strong interpersonal skills including negotiations and communications along with the ability to influence key stakeholders and lead a group even where the role holder has no direct authority.

• Thorough grasp of the jurisdictional model and applicable Regulatory/rate agreements.

• Understanding of life cycles of large projects vs. small projects.

• Ability to interpret information and analyze relationships among several parts of a problem or situation to clearly articulate findings, anticipate obstacles and plan next steps.

• Proficient in relevant software e.g. Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Salary

$92,000 - $108,000 a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
