This position exists to assist and direct all activities associated with the maintenance of the current and future installations of all electrical, security, and fire systems. To develop recommended preventative maintenance schedules for our facilities and building systems in the above areas. Provide related technical assistance and advice, to develop reinforcement standards. This position carries the responsibility of off-duty call back if electrical emergency conditions occur.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Registered with the MN State Board of Electricity as a Class A Master Electrician.

  • Physical health and endurance sufficient to lift at least 50 lbs. (standing, stooping and pulling).

  • Must be able to interpret blue prints and technical drawings.

  • Must have good working knowledge of state electrical codes.

  • Working knowledge of high voltage equipment and distribution systems.

  • Ability to communicate through written and verbal communication.

  • Good human relations skills.

  • Perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.

  • Keep simple records.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification/Licensure for Variable Frequency Drive repairs and installations (VFDs).

  • Ability to determine needs of remodeling, major repairs and new construction.

  • Ability to conduct efficiency studies and implement corrections or changes to improve operations.

  • Ability to provide estimates and information for budget planning purposes.

  • Considerable knowledge of safety practices, applications and procedures.

  • Considerable knowledge of all electrical systems and the ability to direct licensed personnel in maintenance and repair of each.

Additional Requirements

In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
