Senior College Laboratory Technician - Art GENERAL DUTIES Performs supervisory and/or complex technical functions in laboratories in support of coursework. -Maintains, fabricates, modifies, and repairs equipment -Determines equipment requirements, prepares purchase specifications and coordinates acquisitions -Trains and supervises College Laboratory Technicians, College Assistants, and other laboratory staff -Manages set up, maintenance, and organization of student laboratories -Maintains safety and hygiene standards -Documents laboratory activities -Performs related duties as assigned. CONTRACT TITLE Senior College Laboratory Technician FLSA Non-exempt CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) seeks a Senior College Laboratory Technician (CLT) in the Department of Art. Reporting to the chairperson, the Senior CLT oversees the department?s photography area that includes: darkroom, film processing room, classroom and digital printing room. The Senior CLT serves as the health and safety expert for the studios, ensuring the safe usage of highly specialized state-of-the-art equipment and chemicals by students and faculty. In addition to the General Duties, responsibilities include but are not limited to: Sets up chemistry and equipment prior to classes and break it down and clean up after classes. Be in attendance during photography classes and open studios. The safe disposal and replenishment of all exhausted photographic chemistry and proper waste management. Prepares all chemicals used by the students. Supervises open hours and keep records of student attendance. Ensures that the photography area stays up-to-date with modern equipment and digital processes. Understands digital and hybrid photography and its interplay with darkroom photography. Serves as the area?s health and safety expert. Educates students and faculty in safe darkroom procedures. Maintains and supervises health and safety protocols. Helps to clean, organize repairs and maintain the equipment and facility. Helps oversee darkroom renovations and monitor the ventilation system. Orders supplies and learns CUNY purchasing systems. Serves as the main administrator for the area. Maintains an inventory of all materials in sufficient quantity to ensure that the lab work of all students is supported. Identifies vendors for repair and replacement of equipment. Develops estimates of the cost of such maintenance. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma with a minimum of eight years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate's degree may be substituted for two years' experience and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years' experience. This position may also require the ability to supervise others. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS This position requires a high level of technical expertise. MFA preferred. COMPENSATION $74,126 - $81,246; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
