National Grid Lead Analyst - Technical Accounting in Brooklyn, New York

About the Role

The Lead Analyst is responsible for the review of financial documents (e.g. contracts, financial reports, etc.) and for supporting the development of recommendations regarding the financial implications thereon under both US GAAP (including regulatory accounting principles) and IFRS. Participates in research and documentation of technical accounting matters and complex transactions, including implementation and monitoring activities related to recently adopted accounting standards. Responsible for engaging Stakeholders to support the execution of periodic controls in National Grid’s control environment and for providing perspective and support in responding to queries in a timely manner as they arise. Additionally, the Lead Analyst will be the primary interface with external auditors and internal stakeholders in an audit coordination capacity and will, from time to time, provide general accounting support.

What You'll Do

  • Apply technical standards and analysis to complex accounting practices and transactions.

  • Participate in creation of accounting policy documentation; research and monitor activities of all accounting standards and reporting practices to provide proactive revisions to policies and standards.

  • Engages key stakeholders across Finance departments to support and monitor implementation of recently adopted accounting standards and/or updated accounting policies.

  • Supports Director of Technical and Complex Accounting with the dissemination of pertinent policy revisions or updates, including the conveyance of implementation guidance for new FASB and IFRS standards.

  • Works directly with Business Partners across US Controllership, Finance, Business, and Group to provide technical accounting perspectives and conclusions on a timely basis for proposed transactions, including comparisons of conclusions based on structures.

  • Assists Technical Accounting Director with performing key control assignments on a periodical basis, ensuring that controls operate efficiently and effectively.

  • Participates in the development of, technical trainings to ensure compliance to policy standards.

  • Supports information gathering and analysis to provide perspectives and conclusions under US GAAP, IFRS and regulatory accounting principles on queries and requests that may arise in a timely basis (e.g. auditors’ requests, business’ requests). Provide support and analysis to evaluate financial and regulatory impacts of various initiatives and projects enabling prioritization and decision making.

  • Act as key liaison between external auditors and internal stakeholders to ensure an effective and efficient audit.

  • Support ad hoc general and/or recurring general accounting processes (for example, completeness of accounts payable).

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Accounting or Finance with increasing responsibility (BS in Accounting preferred)

  • 5+ years of experience within a regulatory accounting environment with increasing responsibility, or, 5+ years in public accounting with increasing responsibility and experience in an industry that has tangibles (e.g. manufacturing, energy, tech, etc.)

  • ‘Big 4’ experience in audit or accounting advisory preferred.

  • CPA or equivalent international accounting license (or licenses candidate) - preferred

  • Demonstrated practical knowledge and understanding of US GAAP and IFRS, and the ability to translate accounting conclusions to business outcomes.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare clear and quality technical accounting memos and documents.

  • Proven experience in assessing risk and developing policies and standards to mitigate identified risks.

  • Ability to develop technical training and ensure implementation.

  • Utility industry accounting background as well as practical knowledge in the application of ASC 980 Regulated Operations – preferred.

  • Experience in structuring mergers, acquisitions and other complex transactions from an accounting perspective – preferred.

  • Process management.

  • Working as part of a team but able to work on own initiative when required.

  • Effective verbal/written communication skills and collaboration and partnership capabilities to facilitate the transfer of knowledge across the business.

Annual Salary

DNY: $121,000-$142,000

MA: $113,000-$133,000

UNY: $100,000-$118,000

Salary commensurate with experience and location.

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
