Hall Director (71101) Location: Brooklyn, NY Description: The Residential Life and Housing Office is seeking a Hall Director who will live in and be responsible for the residence halls at Pratt Institute. Our mission is to efficiently and effectively administer a housing program in a learning-centered environment that challenges and supports students to enhance self-understanding, value community responsibility, and learn from their experiences. We are seeking a candidate who will set the tone and the agenda for their residence hall by working closely with Resident Advisors (RA) in the hall and the Hall Council. This position will work closely with the Central Office staff, Resident Advisors, and students to plan the residence hall programs and to administer the housing, safety, and maintenance aspects of the hall. If you can demonstrate the ability to encourage student leadership, can plan and facilitate high-quality community development and student learning initiatives, and can support our on-going departmental goals of developing and fostering a positive, engaged community in each residence hall, then we want to hear from you! On a typical day you will be expected to: Supervise Resident Advisor student staff of 8-14 Assist in student staff recruitment, selection, and training Provide advocacy, follow up, and support for students at risk Participate in the implementation of housing procedures and systems Interpret and enforce Institute and Residential Life and Housing policies and procedures, resolve conflicts and make referrals for student conduct action including, but not limited to hearing student conduct cases and assigning educational sanctions Qualifications: Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required. Masters degree in student personnel, counseling, or related field preferred. Experience: Equivalent of one-year experience working in residence hall administration/supervision required (two years graduate or one-year full time). Must have experience working with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Required Skills: Demonstrated ability of your organizational skills Strong computer skills including strong knowledge of computerized systems technology Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and a demonstrated ability to work with a diverse body of artistic and creative students Demonstrated leadership and supervisory ability Works with a great amount of autonomy to resolve complex staff and student needs providing direct and indirect leadership to staff and department Other: Individual must live on the premises and participate in on-call duty rotation responding to residence hall emergencies during non-regular work hours. Involves some evening, weekend, and holiday hours, on-campus residency, and availability outside of regularly scheduled hours for emergencies.
