A world-class and internationally ranked college with programs in art, design, architecture, liberal arts and sciences, and information studies, Pratt offers nearly 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The Institute's impact expands beyond its 25-acre residential campus in Brooklyn to cutting-edge facilities throughout the borough, a landmark building and public gallery in Manhattan, as well as an extension campus, Pratt Munson College of Art and Design in Utica, New York. On Governors Island, Pratt is a core partner on the Stony Brook University team selected to develop the New York Climate Exchange, a research and educational hub poised to establish New York City as the global leader for the most pressing issue of our time: climate change. Another extension of Pratt's campus is the Research Yard, a 20,000-square-foot facility that brings together the research activities of Pratt Institute under one roof in the Brooklyn Navy Yard (BNY). Description Pratt Institute's Graduate Center for Planning and the Environment (GCPE) is an interdisciplinary hub within the School of Architecture of four graduate programs focused on urban issues and equitable, sustainable, community-engaged solutions. The work of students and faculty ranges from physical design to policy design, and everything in between. The four programs-Urban and Community Planning; Sustainable Environmental Systems; Historic Preservation; and Urban Placemaking and Management-are poised and have capacity for growth in terms of both enrollment and visibility beyond the New York City region. The department's programs are led by Academic Directors, one for each program, with the department chairperson serving as director of the Urban and Community Planning program. In addition to the four directors, the GCPE staff comprises an Assistant to the Chair and several student assistants. The work of this small yet effective team is augmented by the work of a Department Coordinator focused on communications and marketing, two crucial elements of departmental operations requiring skills, initiative, knowledge of all four programs, interdisciplinary approaches, and motivation to work within a mission-driven educational environment. All GCPE staff contribute to an educational agenda that is explicitly anti-racist, proactive, action-oriented and recognizes the value of education as a tool for social mobility. Overview/purpose of the role: Reporting to the Chairperson, the Department Coordinator has a supporting role and shared responsibility, with other GCPE staff, to increase the visibility of student and faculty work through currently-existing web and social media platforms as well as participate in School-wide and Institute-wide plans for enhanced web presence. Increasing visibility through marketing strategies is primarily but not exclusively aimed at increasing enrollment across all four programs. The role includes planning for and delivering support for publication and distribution of faculty and student research, practice, and other periodic initiatives and events such as public programs, conferences and end-of-year shows, presentations, and exhibits. The Department Coordinator will ensure coordination of GCPE communications with relevant Pratt entities including the School of Architecture, the Pratt Communications department, Graduate Admissions and Enrollment, and Institutional Advancement. Examples of Duties Primary areas of responsibility: Assist the Academic Directors and Department Chairperson in the creation of content for publications and other identified projects. Manage the preparation, organization, distribution, and archive of GCPE-wide materials. Continue to increase the profile of GCPE programs through engagement and content development for audiences both inside and outside the department. Work with the Admissions division and GCPE staff to identify new outlets for recruitment and maintain connections for the promotion of departmental activities which increase the profile of the programs. Create and manage production schedules for regular publications and serve as the project manager on department and school publication projects. Assist with public programming as needed, including event planning, marketing, documentation, staffing, and coordination with AV staff. 1. Communications and publications Manage all department communications platforms, as directed by the Department Chairperson, with input from Academic Directors. Coordinate graduate assistant work relating to communication and publications, including social media and archival work. Maintain multimedia archive on a shared drive. Manage all media files and implement shared file configurations. Coordinate print publication of studio reports and their digital transmittal to web platforms. Other duties as needed. 2. Marketing Strategy and Recruitment Develop and maintain familiarity with all four GCPE programs. Contribute to the creation of a GCPE marketing plan in coordination with GCPE Academic Directors and Department Chairperson. Contribute to the creation of print, digital, and multi-media marketing and recruitment materials for the GCPE department. Identify recruitment opportunities and work with program staff to develop implementation plans. Coordinate, manage, and staff GCPE-wide recruitment events and engagements.
