Pratt Campus Security Assistant (71106) in Brooklyn, New York

In accordance with the policies of Pratt Public Safety, and under the supervision of the Public Safety Tour Supervisor, incumbents will perform duties supporting the safe access to campus residence halls and as needed fixed Public Safety posts.

Campus Security Assistants work closely with Public Safety Officers (Public Safety Officer Level II) and Residence Life professional staff. The major distinction between a Campus Security Assistant (Public Safety Officer Level I) and a Public Safety Officer (Public Safety Officer Level II) is that Campus Security Assistants are not required to have an NYS driver's license at the time of hire, nor to maintain the same throughout their employment with Pratt.

Typical Post Duties:

  • As needed, act as a First Responder to alarms, medical emergencies, and calls for service.

  • Observe campus activities, reporting suspicious behavior and other incidents to the Public Safety Command Center/or a Public Safety Tour Supervisor.

  • Enforce Institute rules and regulations as specified in Standard Operating Procedures, Post Orders, and Special Directives.

  • Check IDs and parking passes / permits (where applicable) of students, faculty, staff, and visitors, in accordance with the Institute's access policy.

  • Ensures Visitor Management procedures and the credentialing of visitors.

  • Answer department radio and telephone lines, including emergency calls.

  • Provide travel directions and instructions to Institute and campus buildings, offices, and services.

  • Reports and documents items to campus Lost and Found.

  • Coordinate and Communicate with the Public Safety Command Center, Tour.

  • Supervisor(s), and Residence Life professional staff.

  • Always present a positive and friendly attitude while greeting faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

Typical Administrative Duties

  • Maintain an account of daily job/post activities and incidents, as they occur, in the manner determined by the Campus Public Safety Director.

  • Carefully monitor campus/building CCTV systems.

  • Perform assigned Fire Safety duties, including acting as a Fire Warden or Fire Guard during fire drills, emergencies, and other building evacuations.

  • Monitor building access control for community members and visitors.

  • When assigned, maintain post and tour logs, guaranteeing that logs are kept current and entries are up-to-date.

  • Maintain radio contact with the Public Safety Command Center.
