General Electric Global Logistics Lead Customs Specialist - EU in Bristol, United Kingdom

Role Summary:

The Global Logistics Lead Customs Specialist – NAM will ensure adherence to U.S. and international export laws and regulations as it relates to the importation and exportation of goods and technology. This position will be responsible for executing daily import / export operations in North America (US & Canada) including trouble-shooting and root cause analysis for any issues impacting the efficient movement of goods across international borders.

Essential Responsibilities:

In the role of Global Logistics Lead Customs Specialist – EU, you will:

  • Resolve daily inquiries regarding US export shipments and inbound import “green-light” approval. Help to prepare export & import documentation when necessary

  • Work closely with manufacturing and services locations to develop, train & deploy the origin logistics model - ensuring all export & import requirements are accurately documented before equipment ships from the seller’s dock

  • Work closely with manufacturing and service locations to assign country-of-origin designations for items so that BHGE is compliant and can take advantage of preferential trade agreements when applicable. Create US free trade agreement Certificates of Origin for international customers

  • Support the region (internal locations & external suppliers) with establishing standard requirements for shipment documentation, both import & export. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of data with customs brokers

  • Work closely with the global product classification team as it relates to the request & receipt Harmonized Tariff Schedule codes, Schedule B codes & ECCN

  • Ensure adequate document retention within the region to support compliance with government agencies and international trade regulations. When necessary, assist legal counsel, logistics and sales

  • When necessary, file export declarations on behalf of BHGE in the ACE system

  • Monitor and track critical shipments, and resolve problems when necessary

  • Facilitate the acquisition of export and import licenses in close coordination with BHGE ITC regional and product company leaders

  • Resolve transactional issues relating to the clearance of shipped goods by working daily with brokers and other related logistics providers

  • Act as primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, customers and vendor queries Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (OR High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution with a minimum 9 years of experience in international trade, international business logistics and/or trade compliance including minimum 5 years of experience working in a team-based global environment and minimum 2 years of experience using PC-based trade compliance systems and trade content services)

  • Significant years of experience in international trade, international business logistics and/or trade compliance

  • Significant years of experience working in a team-based global environment

  • Relevant years of experience using PC-based trade compliance systems and trade content services Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience working in the oil & gas industry

  • Membership in professional organizations, trade or user groups, and a pattern of regular attendance at industry conferences to enhance knowledge of trade compliance is preferred

  • Accredited zone specialist is preferred
