Job Overview

The Database Coordinator will be a member of the Center for the Evaluation of Value and Risk in Health (CEVR), which is part of the Institute for Clinical Research and Health Policy Studies at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

The Database Coordinator position will play a key role in the maintenance and growth of the Specialty Drug Evidence and Coverage (SPEC) Database, which CEVR researchers use to examine patient access to specialty therapies (biologics, gene therapies, and so on).

Activities include but are not limited to data extraction, management and analysis. The position will involve close collaboration with the SPEC research team. The Database Coordinator will be supervised by CEVR faculty and the existing SPEC Database Manager.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications :

  1. Bachelor’s degree.

  2. Two (2) years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications :

1.(Data Management/science/informatics Formal training in data management/science/informatics a plus. )

Duties and Responsibilities : The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  1. Data extraction, management, quality assurance, and analysis

  2. Track and obtain health plan specialty therapy coverage policies

  3. Perform data quality control checks

  4. Support research team through preparation of data summaries, tables and figures

  5. Assist with other research activities

  6. Assist with manuscript and grant application preparation

  7. Attend meetings as required

  8. Maintain collaborative relationships with multidisciplinary peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the team’s achievement of shared goals, and to help foster a positive work environment

  9. Upload data to and help maintain the SPEC database online platform

  10. Manage website updates, enhancements and troubleshoot bug fixes

  11. Monitor and report on database utilization and other key metrics

  12. Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed

Physical Requirements :

  1. Consistent with a normal office work environment.

  2. Work requires frequent continuous typing/computer keying, telephone use and sitting for extended periods.

Skills & Abilities:

  1. Strong organizational skills and attention to details

  2. Demonstrable experience extracting, managing, and/or analyzing data

  3. Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., MS SQL) is a plus

  4. Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., Stata/SAS/R) is a plus

  5. Care in organization and systematic record-keeping

  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills

  7. Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel and Power Point)

  8. Ability to work both independently with limited supervision as well as in a collaborative team environment

  9. Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities appropriately

  10. Ability to problem solve quickly and appropriately

  11. Experience working with health care data is a plus
