Exciting position available for a Resource Specialist on our soon to open 12 bed inpatient psychiatry unit at Boston Children’s Hospital @ Waltham. The unit serves children 8-18 years old, many of whom have co-morbid medical problems, e.g. eating disorders, neurological disorders, etc. This person will orient and train on our Boston inpatient psychiatry unit until the Waltham unit opens. Our target start date for this role is July or August 2021.

The Psychiatry Resource Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in accessing hospital and / or outpatient placement in accordance with treatment and /or discharge plan formulated by clinical care team

  • Assessing patient resource needs, facilitating referrals to community partners and agencies, supporting families in support in obtaining discretionary and entitlement benefits and credit, and maintaining documentation of services provided in the electronic medical record and databases

  • Working with an interdisciplinary medical team and researchers to help ensure patient families have stable, healthy housing; are accessing available nutrition education and food resources; and are receiving all benefits and community resources available to them

To qualify, you must have:

  • Two years of occupational‑specific education or an Associate degree in Human Services or related field and two to three years of previous experience. BSW, BA, BS with experience working in a social services or medical setting preferred

  • Analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations
