Job Overview

The Research Assistant III will be a member of the Institute for Clinical Research and Health Policy Studies (ICRHPS) at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

The Research Assistant will work independently and with the research team to support the activities of the Center. The Research Assistant will also develop and implement projects, and contribute text to reports and manuscripts.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in an Educational Related Program, relevant to research.

  2. Three (3) years of research experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Five (5) years of academic, clinical, or scientific research in a medical setting.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

This position provides assistance in support of research activities under supervision of the Principal Investigator.

  • Responsible for data collection and ensuring that all data is collected in a timely fashion, which includes identifying missing data and implementing data checks, as well as generation of reports.

  • Performs tasks which may require familiarity with a variety of protocols and techniques.

  • May perform literature searches either relevant to the project(s), else in pursuit of new techniques/ideas to expand relevant basic knowledge.

  • May be responsible for scheduling meetings or study visits.

  • May maintain and update records in accordance with IRB/WIRB and sponsor requirements.

  • Assists with preparation of abstracts, presentations, and publications as needed.

  • May train other research assistants, volunteers, or students.

  • May design databases/higher level programs.

  • May assist PI with protocol review and development.

  • Attends meetings as required.

  • Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working group’s achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment.

  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

  1. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.  

Skills & Abilities:

1.Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  1. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel and Power Point), and familiarity with databases (e.g., experience using MS Access).

  2. Computer programming, database, and statistical analysis skills.

  3. Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle competing demands in order to meet project timelines.

  4. Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team environment.

  5. Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities as needed.

  6. Clinical or scientific knowledge and techniques relevant to area of research.

  7. Demonstrated care in following procedures and diligence in recordkeeping.

  8. Knowledge of proper procedures for handling human and non-human body fluids.

  9. Analytical skills to appropriately develop and modify complex testing, reviewing of tests, and interpretation of findings.

  10. Ability to be meticulous and detail-oriented, be able to communicate with peers as well as investigators.

  11. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing clinical research including, if relevant, the ethical treatment of human and animal subjects.
