    The Opportunity and Who You’ll Work With:

Position Type: Permanent, Full Time, Benefits Eligible

Work Format: Onsite – 5 days per week

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week. Hours are typically 09:00AM-05:00PM Eastern Time.

At WBUR, our Engineering, Operations & IT department is pivotal to maintaining and advancing the technical infrastructure that supports our news production and distribution. This department is responsible for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of broadcast equipment, digital platforms, and communication networks.

Within this department, our Operations team is comprised of three individuals and the Operations Manager. This team works with the other five teams in this department on an as-needed support role. The Operations Team also supports all WBUR staff for facility and building maintenance needs.

As Operations Assistant, you will be responsible for the proper operating environment of our technical and facilities areas at WBUR. You will ensure that proper service and maintenance procedures are followed and assist the Operations Manager in daily operational tasks.

You will independently maintain general station supplies while addressing the daily needs of the WBUR team and station. The hands-on duties of your position vary from facility setup and breakdown for station events, minor facility repairs, daily mail distribution, and the proper installation, maintenance, and inventory upkeep of WBUR equipment.

You will also be responsible for making catering arrangements, reception desk tasks, coordinating repairs for large equipment, and scheduling maintenance for station vehicles.

Due to the demands of this position, you will need a wide range of hands-on experience with equipment and facility maintenance.

Essential Functions:

  • (35%) Manage reception desk operations on a daily basis. Respond to and forward listener calls, maintain station email inboxes, provide guest access to building and parking garage and some administrative tasks.

  • (20%) Coordinate maintenance of WBUR facilities with internal departments and with Boston University Facilities and Management Planning. Track WBUR office floor plans and changes using Visio or equivalent software. Coordinate internal workstation moves and adjustments. Participate in off-site remote broadcasts and CitySpace operations as needed.

  • (10%) Manage and coordinate the purchasing of supplies for the WBUR Engineering, Operations & IT Department. This department purchases over $60,000 in supplies annually.

  • (15%) Basic maintenance of copiers, printers, and shared office equipment.

  • (10%) Maintain three WBUR lease vehicles. Maintain proper operating environment for all office spaces, digital audio workstations, audio boards, broadcast equipment and technical equipment in editing booths.

  • (10%) Maintain kitchen supplies and equipment including dishwasher, coffee machine, range, and other equipment. Package, and mail distribution.

This position is covered under our collective bargaining agreement with the L2324 union and the minimum pay rate for this position is $25.01 per hour. Additionally, when compensation is being evaluated for a candidate finalist, that amount can increase as experience and internal equity are factored into the offer amount.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent/relevant experience

  • 1-3 years of relevant or equivalent experience

    Capabilities and Proficiencies:

  • An excitement about WBUR’s mission to provide an essential public good: high-quality journalism and enriching experiences that foster understanding, connection and community.

  • Proficient with project/process management, office administration tasks and technical support.

  • Strong written and oral communication as well as customer service skills.

  • Familiar and has intermediate skills with Office 365 email and calendaring.

  • Familiarity with Adobe suite and Zoom is a plus.
