The Occupational Therapist II shall be responsible for:
Performs complex diagnostic evaluations upon referral and in accordance with departmental and professional guidelines and standards. Verifies appropriateness of referral, contacting provider as necessary. Reviews patient medical history/record and selects, administers and interprets a broad range of standardized and non-standardized tests and measurements in order to assess patient’s functional status as related to cardiopulmonary, developmental, musculoskeletal, neurological and sensorimotor function. Synthesizes, interprets and analyzes evaluation findings, incorporating the patient and family profile.
Demonstrates proficient level of clinical reasoning with development and implementation of individualized treatment programs for patients, including those with complex, rare or multiple dysfunctions. Prioritizes treatment goals and administers appropriate occupational therapy procedures and modalities to address goals.
Utilizes advance clinical reasoning skills for selection/fabrication of orthotics, adaptive/assistive equipment and technology for patients, including those with complex, rare or multiple dysfunction.
Records assessments, diagnoses and treatment plans in the patient’s medical record according to established documentation standards. Prepares reports, correspondence and other materials for schools, providers, insurance carriers and others as needed.
Assists in planning and organizing daily clinical operations within designated area. Assists in determining patient assignments and treatment priorities and communicates to patients/caregivers, physicians and other providers. Performs designated operational duties in absence of Occupational Therapist III.
Self identifies and develops clinical knowledge and skills through participation in professional organizations, attending continuing education programs and other related internal and external resources.
Attends and contributes to team meetings, patient care rounds and other interdisciplinary forums and provides occupational therapy consultation to physicians, specialty clinics and others as requested.
May contribute to advancement of profession through participation in research, teaching or advocacy. Serves as a resource in general pediatrics as well as area(s) of clinical expertise.
Participates in departmental training and staff development programs. Serves as a preceptor for new occupational therapist staff and as a clinical instructor in student externship program.
Acts as a supervisor for assigned direct reports, including occupational therapist I, occupational therapist assistants and rehab aides. Assists in monitoring work assignments, identifying areas for improvement and professional development, providing instruction and feedback, and participating in performance evaluations. Assists in development of annual goals and objectives.
Participates in unit, and department and hospital quality improvement (QI) program and assists in planning and analyzing QI data. Identifies, develops and implements quality indicators; collects, organizes and presents results; and recommends subsequent actions.
Delegate’s administration of occupational therapy treatments and related direct patient care activities to licensed and non-licensed staff.
In order to qualify you must have:
Current Massachusetts license as an Occupational Therapist OT
National Board of Certified Occupational Therapy preferred
Bachelor's Degree Occupational Therapy
5 to 7 years previous experience
