Boston University FINANCIAL ANALYST, Global Programs Finance & Operations 1 in BOSTON, Massachusetts

Reporting directly to the Director, Finance and Administration, the Financial Analyst will be responsible for financial and enrollment data analysis. This includes, but is not limited to, review and reconciliation of monthly financial reports, documenting financial policies and recommending improvements to financial processes and policies. He/She processes invoice payments, reviews travel expense reports, deposits miscellaneous receivables, processes purchase orders and requisitions, and manages financial databases. In addition, He/She assists on aspects of developing, maintaining, and analyzing selected budgets and financial plans.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:

  • Process financial transactions, including invoices, expense reports, deposits, and purchase orders and track information using financial databases. Analyze expense and budget variances. Coordinate accounts payable and accounts receivables transactions processing as needed. (25%)

  • Assist the Global Programs finance and administration management team in the development and monitoring of annual income and expense and financial aid budgets. Conduct data analysis on enrollment, revenue, and expenses and provide summaries as needed to both the Global Programs finance and administration management teams and Study Abroad Enrollment Services. (25%)

  • Manage the Global Programs and Study Abroad monthly site report process; monitor deadlines, review and reconcile financial reports submitted by each site by verifying financial statements, and upload results into the accounting system and financial databases. Research and resolve discrepancies by communicating with site staff directly and act as first check for spending appropriateness. Ensure expenses are compliant with BU financial and operational policies. Propose and assist with the development of policies, forms, and templates to streamline reporting and other processes. (20%)

  • In concert with the Director, Finance and Administration, and other Global Programs management team members, conduct a broad range of analysis for decision making purposes that has material financial implications. Identify potential cost and operational efficiencies for recommendation to Senior Management. (20%)

  • Liaise with the office of General Accounting, as well as other departmental accounting units across campus as required to resolve potential accounting discrepancies. (5%)

  • Assist Global Programs finance and administration management team on special projects as needed. (5%)

Required Skills

  • B.A/B.S or equivalent

  • 1-3 years of experience in financial analysis of a complex organization preferred, including experience with global finance and preparing and analyzing complex budgets

  • Ability to work with large quantities of data; strong analytical and modeling skills

  • Knowledge of financial statements and accounting; familiar with foreign exchange rates and calculations; highly proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with FileMaker Pro and SAP preferred; strong analytical and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple requests at once.
