Overseeing development, implementation, and maintenance of internal policies and procedures for processing, storage and handling of medical and surgical supplies and equipment in the various Sterile Processing departments.
Developing and implementing new and/or updated decontamination and sterilization methods as needed.
Establishing enterprise goals and objectives for sterile processing and high-level disinfection.
Developing and maintaining an organizational structure to efficiently support the required functions.
Evaluating service delivery systems and procedures and recommends and implements changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Overseeing usage of inventory and initiates purchase of items as needed. Supports purchasing of new instruments and materials to encompass sterilization ability, readiness and education.
Evaluating, recommending, and assisting in introduction of new instruments and materials.
Working with SPD/OR staff and/or other hospital departments to develop and maintain systems and procedures for tracking and distribution of processed instruments. Working with Supply Chain to ensure, update, and maintain appropriate par levels for supplies, instruments, and other related SPD equipment.
Maintaining knowledge of current trends and practices in processing, maintenance, and procurement of medical and surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies through participation in professional organizations and attendance at relevant continuing education programs.
Leading enterprise and departmental committees and project teams as appropriate.
Administering the recruitment, evaluations, growth and development of department managers.
Ensuring the appropriate scheduling of resources and training programs. Responsible for development and implementation of in-services and continuing education programs for staff development.
Implementing procedural change as needed to ensure compliance with hospital, department, and external policies, standards, and regulations. Ensureing completion of required quality monitoring and related data collection. Provides governance and supporting departments dashboard reports and monitoring reports.
Providing subject-matter expertise to the design of new sterile processing/HLD/s areas as needed.
In order to qualify you must have:
A Bachelor’s degree in Surgical Technology, Central Processing or a closely related field.
Five years' experience as a sterile processing technician and five-years of management experience
System/IDN management experience
Current Certifications in the following [HSPA / CBSPD]: - Central Service Technician (CRCST / CSPDT) - High-level Disinfection (CER / CFER) - Instruments (CIS / CSIS) - SPD Leadership (CHL / CSPM)
The ability to effectively manage the employees within assigned unit/department.
Communication skills in order to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions; well-developed writing skills.
The ability to interact and coordinate with employees, vendors, surgeons and nursing staff.
