The Director for Program Evaluation of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute implements and manages multiple individual evaluation plans associated with programs that advance Translational Science through: (1) biomedical research training to faculty, scholars/fellows and staff and (2) research services, resources and tools to researchers that span the research continuum for basic research to translation to humans, patients, practice, and humans. The Institute is funded by the NIH, National Center for Advancing Clinical Sciences. The Director must be skilled in collaborating with program directors and MD PhD investigators to develop program evaluation plans that identify and prioritize activities to be completed during the funding period, as well as data dissemination plans to share findings with diverse stakeholders. The Director must be experienced with using inclusive, participatory evaluation approaches in the design and implementation of mixed method evaluation and ongoing use of program data to demonstrate accountability for the attainment of program aims and ensure continuous improvement of programs and organizational learning and change. The Director also conducts bibliometric and research analyses using a variety of digital analytical tools to assess faculty and trainee research productivity, influence, and impact/translation, and produces peer-reviewed publications related to evaluation of translational science efforts. Expertise is needed in research methodologies and study designs, quantitative and qualitative data collection and analyses, descriptive and inferential statistical analyses, survey and interview protocol design, metrics and dashboard development linked to attainment of program aims, process mapping, presentation of findings to diverse audiences, group facilitation skills to ensure use of data leading to changes documented in action plans, and report writing targeting different audiences. The Directors approach to evaluation practice and continuous improvement should advance democratizing, inclusive approaches in planning and conducting evaluation of programs and interventions. Such practices should emphasize the inclusion of diverse audiences in discussions and decisions at different stages of the evaluation process, from design to methods to data collection to interpretation and use of the data to guide change. Evaluation practice should foster a sense of inclusion with individuals to enable them to understand the findings and feel empowered to act and advance change and catalyze innovations. The Director oversees data analyst students who support this role and requires independent decision-making regarding the management of setting work activities and priorities and quality of deliverables of staff analysts. To assess programs, the position works closely with faculty across all ranks (MDs & PhDs), physician-scientists, research and regulatory staff, and postdoctoral scholars/fellows, as well communication specialists to repackage data into publically accessible stories about outcomes and impact. The Director is also expected to play an active role in the CTSA nationally, representing the BU CTSI and participating in network wide evaluation programs and workgroups. The position is located on the Boston University Medical Campus. The Director is expected to participate in administrative and training oversight committees with faculty and national-level evaluator committees and working groups associated with the Institute. The position reports to the BU CTSI Multiple PIs and the Core Leadership Team. A PhD and 3-5 years of program evaluation experience is required.
