Boston University’s Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences invites applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) position to join the Department of Occupational Therapy. This Clinical Assistant Professor position will have responsibility for teaching courses in the undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Behavior and Health (BSBH) program, with the potential for teaching in the entry-level OTD program, in addition to other responsibilities in the Occupational Therapy Department. The Occupational Therapy (OT) Department offers an entry-level doctoral degree program (EL-OTD), a post-professional online doctoral degree program, an undergraduate degree in Behavior and Health (BSBH), and a PhD in Rehabilitation Science. Our EL-OTD is ranked by US News and World Report as #1. Our faculty are world-renowned, leading the field in clinical experience and research, and are passionate about engaging students in these professional activities. We focus on community-based practice and emerging practice areas, with hands-on, practical experiences integrated throughout our curricula.

The Bachelor of Science in Behavior and Health (BSBH) program in the OT Department offers unparalleled opportunities to study, learn, and explore a range of career paths related to healthcare and the social and behavioral sciences. Upon graduation, students are well prepared to work in hospitals, schools, nonprofits, community settings, social and human service organizations, research labs, consulting, and more. Our program opens doors to many graduate school and career possibilities, in areas such as occupational therapy and rehabilitation, medicine, dentistry, social work, psychology, public health, physician assistantship, nursing, theology, law, business, and beyond. Classes that faculty of the BSBH teach include HP 151 Introduction to Health Professions, SAR HP 252 Health and Disability Across the Lifespan, HP 412: Abnormal Behavior in Rehabilitation, HP 250: Introduction to Critical Inquiry in Behavior and Health, HP 353: Organization and Delivery of Health Care in the U.S., HP321: Health Conditions Across the Life-course, HP500: Helping Skills: Fundamentals of Health Communications, and others.

Clinical Assistant Professor position: At Boston University, a Clinical Assistant Professor is a faculty member appointed primarily to provide instruction and application of practical knowledge for a stated term. The title reflects strong teaching ability, and professional expertise and achievement. Clinical Assistant Professors are expected to have a program of scholarship, to publish papers or present at conferences on their scholarship annually, and maintain a line of scholarship that engages students and advances their field.

This is a full-time, renewable, 9-month, non-tenure track appointment that will begin on or after July 1, 2025, depending on the candidate and final approval of the academic appointment. The initial term is three years and is renewable based on performance and the continued availability of funding. The Clinical Assistant Professor will teach, advise students, and participate in service to Sargent College. A successful candidate will have training and professional experience in occupational therapy, psychology, counseling, public health, education or a related field.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have:

A doctoral degree, such as a PhD, DrPH, OTD, EdD, or other equivalent

• A demonstrated track record of excellent interpersonal skills (i.e., communicating effectively with students and colleagues)

• Organizational skills (i.e., capacity to create and maintain an easy-to-use Blackboard site for course materials)

Preference will be given to candidates with

• Prior experience teaching, which may include guest lecturing or responsibility for a portion of an undergraduate or graduate course

• Clinical or other practical experience interacting with clients, patients, or consumers

• Established line of scholarship, with published peer-reviewed papers or conference presentations completed

What to expect from our process:

The in-person interview will include a 45-minute job talk and a 45-minute teaching demonstration.
