Boston University CHEMISTRY TEACHER, BU Academy in BOSTON, Massachusetts
Boston University Academy is seeking a full-time chemistry teacher to begin in August 2025 as a one-year leave replacement.
Primary responsibilities include teaching three sections of tenth-grade, honors-level chemistry and advising STEM-focused senior thesis research projects. The teacher will join a three-person science department committed to student-centered, hands-on teaching and learning. BUA faculty are also involved outside the classroom in a variety of ways, including advising, chaperoning trips and events, and leading extracurricular activities.
As the only high school in New England that is part of a major research university, Boston University Academy (BUA) offers students who love learning both a traditional, caring independent school experience and access to a broad range of university courses. In the eleventh and twelfth grades, students follow their passions by regularly completing up to twelve courses from Boston University’s undergraduate curriculum. The school’s 245 students are curious, capable, and kind. They come from 47 cities and towns in the Greater Boston area. 53% of students identify as students of color. 29% of students are on financial aid — a reflection of BUA’s commitment to equity and access.
Boston University’s generous benefits package includes health, dental, life insurance, and paid time off. Full-time employees are also eligible for tuition remission for graduate work at Boston University, and remission extends to dependents as well. For more details on benefits, please refer to the Boston University benefits page here.
Required Skills
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of teaching experience, an advanced degree in chemistry or a related field, a student-centered approach, deep content knowledge, and a passion for working with high school students. The chemistry course has a significant focus on science communication, and course assessment follows a competency/mastery-based model; teachers with experience in these two areas are encouraged to share that. For all positions, we look for candidates who enjoy working with colleagues in a collaborative environment, who are flexible and creative, who will fully engage in the life of the school, and who are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable community.
To apply, please send a resume, list of references (if available), and cover letter addressed to Dr. Rosemary White, Associate Head of School, to buacareers@bu.edu.
