Boston University CDS ONLINE MS IN DS STUDENT SUCCESS SPECIALIST, Office of the Provost in BOSTON, Massachusetts

The Faculty of Computing and Data Sciences (CDS) is seeking qualified applicants to join our growing team of student success professionals for the Online MS in Data Science program. The Student Success Specialist will be responsible for monitoring students' academic progress, providing guidance in determining students' interests and objectives, and helping students to locate and navigate the resources they need to successfully complete their degree programs. In addition, Student Success Specialists execute events and programs to foster community throughout the program.

Responsibilities :

· Provide comprehensive academic advisement to a portfolio of OMDS students

· Help assigned students to plan and map out their path to degree completion

· Participate in outreach efforts to re-enroll students each semester

· Monitor student progress in order to intervene, guide, and recommend solutions to academic difficulties

· Collaborate with BU Virtual to enhance the Student Portal.

· Maintain current knowledge of prerequisites, graduation requirements, university procedures, policies, and other student services

· Collect retention-related student data for periodic reports

· Plan and execute events to build community throughout the program

· Create and update resources for OMDS students

Advising (50%): Provide comprehensive academic advisement to a portfolio of OMDS students. Help assigned students to plan and map out their path to degree completion. Participate in outreach efforts to re-enroll students each semester. Monitor student progress in order to intervene, guide, and recommend solutions to academic difficulties. Maintain current knowledge of prerequisites, graduation requirements, university procedures, policies, and other student services. Due to the online nature of the program and the national/international student population, a flexible schedule will be required including some evenings and weekends.

Community Building & Support Programming (30%): Plan and execute virtual events and programs to provide engagement opportunities and support for students. Create and update resources for students. Collaborate with other offices at BU as needed.

Reporting (20%): Prepare timely reports on student progress and retention. Work with data analysts to identify trends in order to improve student support.

Required Skills

· Bachelor’s degree required and 5-8 years experience, or Masters degree (strongly preferred) and 3-5 years experience

· Advising experience with online students preferred

· Strong communication skills both orally and in writing

· Customer service orientation with desire to help others succeed in reaching their goals

· Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with students

· Experience with observing, receiving and otherwise obtaining information from relevant sources, and keeping records in CRM (Salesforce preferred)

· Strong computing or data analytics skills and ability to quickly adapt to new technology

· Motivation for delivering empathetic, compassionate, consistent, accurate, developmental, student-focused, appreciative, and honest advising

· Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, and weekends

· The successful candidate will have demonstrated commitment to and relevant ability in competently working with diverse student populations
