Boston University CAREER ADVISOR, School of Law, LLM Professional Development in BOSTON, Massachusetts

Boston University School of Laws Office of Professional Development, located within the Office of Graduate, International, and Online Programs, advises BU Law LL.M. students and alumni on all areas of career and professional development. The Professional Development Office seeks a temporary, part-time Career Advisor to support the Associate Director of Professional Development. This is a 9-month, 24-hours-per-week contract position to start in early September 2024. The hours are flexible but will be during regular business hours (9 am-5 pm, Monday through Friday). The compensation is $30/hour.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Meeting with LL.M. students and alumni on a one-on-one basis to review resumes, cover letters, and other job application materials; and conduct mock interviews; and counsel individual students and alumni on effective job search strategies, current market trends regarding legal and alternative employers, and self-marketing skills

  • Organizing and helping to run on- and off-campus career-related events, information sessions, and networking opportunities

  • Coordinating and assisting with BU LLMs participation in recruiting events and programs

  • Researching job and pro bono opportunities and posting them to the online job database

  • Distributing periodic communications to students regarding career development events and opportunities

  • Working with career services management software and database to regularly input career counseling notes, review job postings, and events, and run reports

Required Skills

The preferred candidate will have:

  • A J.D. degree (required) with at least 2 years of U.S. law-related work experience, OR a LL.M. with at least 5 years U.S. law-related work experience

  • An interest in or ability to succeed at career advising

  • Knowledge of legal careers, legal job resources and the job market

  • Experience in working with international lawyers/students

  • Demonstrated organizational and oral and written communication skills
