To ensure that undergraduates are well prepared to make the most of the vast array of opportunities Boston University offers, the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Affairs is launching a new initiative focused on first-year students. The goal of this initiative is to support the integration of our newest students into our academic community and to provide them with a solid foundation for success. Seven First-Year Success Advisors will collaborate with faculty and staff across campus to advise and support our first-year students, connecting them with opportunities, resources, and people, and engaging them in the intellectual life of the community.

Responsibilities

The First-Year Success Advisors are responsible for supporting students academic and personal success during their first year at Boston University. Each First-Year Success Advisor (SA) will be affiliated with a School/College and will be assigned to a cohort of first-year students within that unit. In addition to advising, the SA will collaborate with faculty and central offices to develop and run first-year programming. Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Advising and Student Support in the Provosts Office, SAs may support efforts such as new student orientation and will take on other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience in higher education setting

Additional Qualifications:

  • Interest in student success and the first-year experience.

  • Experience advising students or student organizations.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and exemplary written and oral communication abilities.

  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Capacity to build positive and collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

  • Highly organized and attentive to detail.

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Additional Details This role is eligible to apply for a remote-work arrangement for up to one day per week.
