This role has been designated as Hybrid work schedule and will be based out of our La Crosse, WI Or Bloomington, MN location. Flexible work-from-home options are available.

Job Summary:

The Lead Compressor Engineer is a key member of the Advanced Technologies Applied Compression team, which works across the business to understand and develop compression technology to meet our customers’ needs. In this role, you will solve technology needs through mechanical design, analysis, testing, qualification and manufacturing integration of scroll, screw and centrifugal compressors used in HVAC and transport refrigeration applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical design of scroll, screw, and centrifugal compressors from concept selection to detailed drawing, including design of pressure vessels, castings, bearings, lubrication systems, and seals. Specify, select, and apply motors in compressor applications. Perform stress and deflection analysis, rotor dynamics, and vibration analysis.

  • Facilitate design reviews, conduct design FMEAs; oversee execution of virtual engineering and physical testing validation plans. Use virtual development tools to predict performance and optimize compressor design

  • Collaborate with engineering teams across the business to provide compressor selection recommendations and refine design to meet application needs. Maintain awareness of new technology through supplier relationships, participation in technical societies, academic research projects, and conferences.

  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including technical reports, lab test results, drawings, models, and specifications. Contribute to development of standard practices and increased efficiency in the engineering & design process.

  • Lead a development team of engineers, designers, and technicians through a project. Coordinate engineering communication and ensure tasks are shared among a broader engineering team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or Engineering Physics and at least 15 years’ work experience in product design and development is required.

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is a plus

Key Competencies:

  • Expertise in mechanical design including strong understanding of GD&T and statistical tolerancing, with practical hands-on hardware experience.

  • Ability to use and develop modeling and simulation tools, guide others to apply these tools, and use results to understand technical trade-offs

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – ability to communicate up, down, and across the organization.

  • Understanding of how to select and apply compressors in HVAC/R systems and/or design and apply rotating equipment in other fields.

  • Demonstrated success in applying engineering, project management and problem-solving skills to develop and introduce new products

Base Compensation Range is $86,000 to $179,000
