JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a Maintenance Manager / Operating Engineer First Class tojoinour team as part of the Northwest OperationsTeambased in Atikokan, Ontario.

Reporting to the Plant Manager of Operations for our Northwest Operations Team,

the Maintenance Manager / Operating Engineer First Class is responsible for managing the Maintenance Department resources assigned to support the provision of capacity and energy to meet the contractual commitments to Energy Markets in a manner consistent with meeting the ongoing Corporate requirements for due diligence in achieving excellence in financial performance and value, worker health and safety, Equity Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) as well as sustainable energy development and acceptable impact on the surrounding community and the overall environment.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Manage approximately 25 Maintenance staff resources assigned to support the provision of capacity and energy to meet the contractual commitments to Energy Markets in a manner consistent with meeting the ongoing Corporate requirements for due diligence in achieving excellence in financial performance and value, worker health andsafety,sustainable energy development and acceptable impact on the surrounding communityandthe overall environment.

  • Adherence to Station, Thermal, TSSA and OPG policies, Regulations, directives and strategies with an emphasis on environmental and operating responsibilities as they apply to the safe maintenance of the unit boilers and associated systems.

  • Maintain,modify,plan, schedule and review work, provide budget, cost and program assessment and control of Atikokan Generation Station.

  • Support includes supply of fuels, biomass dust management, removal of by-products; provision of site, unit efficiency and efficiency enhancements. Manage resources, operate, maintain, modify, plan, schedule and review work, provide budget, cost and program assessment and control of equipment for fuel and by-product handling.

  • Recommend strategies, plans, policies, and procedures for:

  • The production of capacity and energy from Atikokan GS in support of optimizing the value added contribution of the station.

  • The provision of direct services to support the production of capacity and energy through the supply of fuel, managing by-product and related commodity products; provision of site services, bio-diversity, land management in support of optimizing the value added contribution to the station.

  • Provide input to station maintenance and business plans and budget for production units related to production, fuel, ash, and by-product management and general site services related to operation, maintenance,upgradesand support functions to meet station level performance achievement plans

  • Provide,review,update and redirect the maintenance plan, business plan, budget and associated programs to accommodate changes to station role and forecasts

  • Identify opportunities and recommend options for changes and improvements to increase plant competitiveness and customer satisfaction (i.e. Energy Markets, other departments at site, external stakeholders, etc.). by seeking and testing alternate lower cost fuels, manage by-product contracts and stakeholder relationships, promote Equity Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I), bio-diversity, boiler water, steam chemistry in co-operation with Renewable Generation stakeholders and resources.

  • Manage the station’s 4 x 10 maintenance requirements through other plant departments and manage servicecontractswith all departments / units during “offshifts”.

  • Be aware of and comply with applicable corporate policies related to health and safety, environmental management, Dam and Public Safety and quality management.

  • Exercise due diligence with respect to the environment; having programs in place and practiced by all department staff that supports the achievement of the environmental objectives of the station.

EDUCATION

  • Requires 1st Class Power (Operating) Engineer Certification

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 6 years in a Leadership Capacity required

  • Ability to lead and work with integrated cross function groups in support of a common objective. Experience working within the power generation industry is strongly preferred;

  • Knowledge of Quality Standards and codes applicable to a 1st class steam plant;

  • Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision;

  • People and team oriented with a strong ability to establish an excellent level of confidence, credibility and cooperation with program’s internal and external stakeholders;

  • Ability to communicate well, both verbally and written, is essential; Ability to present information clearly and effectively
