The principal responsibilities of the position include managing petroleum release sites in the Petroleum Remediation Program (PRP). This involves ensuring that responsible parties and volunteers perform adequate investigations and cleanups of petroleum tank releases in order to protect human health and the environment, conducting enforcement as needed to ensure this occurs.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology, Water Resources, Soil Science or related field and 2 years of professional experience doing professional-level environmental protection or pollution control experience that includes environmental investigations with an understanding of the principles of remediation, soil, groundwater, surface water and soil gas investigations;

OR

THREE years professional-level experience in professional-level environmental protection or pollution control experience that includes environmental investigations with an understanding of the principles of remediation, soil, groundwater, surface water and soil gas investigations.

All candidates must:

Have the ability to develop and implement work plans; independently complete assignments in a timely manner; mentor and serve as a team member; and understand the economic and social impact of environmental decisions.

Good communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills needed.

Must have sufficient planning/organization skills to perform senior-level professional work.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology, Water Resources, Soil Science or related field.

Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local environmental laws, rules, regulations and standards.

Knowledge of the Minnesota Department of Commerce Petroleum Tank Release Cleanup Act and Petrofund Rule, Underground and Aboveground Tanks Rules.

Knowledge of the overall state and federal environmental regulatory framework related to environmental investigations and cleanup of contaminated properties.

Experience working with diverse communities.

Customer service experience, skills and abilities.

Experience working in teams and experience with conflict resolution.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

Additional Requirements

Position duties may require travel but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position. Employees who may drive for state business will need their driver’s license checked prior to operating a state vehicle.
