Job Summary

We have multiple vacancies in locations available. Please indicate on your applications all the locations you will consider working in. We have multiple vacancies at offices located in Alexandria, VA; Fairfax, VA; Springfield, VA; Northern Division Crew (Springfield, VA); Woodbridge, VA; Leesburg, VA; Warrenton, VA; Blue Ridge, VA; Rockbridge-Alleghany (Lexington, VA); Charlottesville, VA; Midlothian, VA; Eastern Division Crew (Chesapeake, VA); and Chuckatuck (Suffolk, VA).

• Starting pay rate for Blue Ridge, Charlottesville, Chuckatuck, Eastern Division Crew (Chesapeake), Midlothian, and Rockbridge - Alleghany (Lexington), will be $22.37 per hour advancing progressively to $28.18 per hour after one year.

• The rate of pay for Alexandria, Fairfax, Springfield, Northern Division Crew (Springfield), Leesburg, Warrenton, and Woodbridge and will be $28.18 per hour with a 5% wage supplement added to the rate of pay for Fredericksburg, 10% wage supplement for Fairfax, Springfield, Northern Division Crew (Springfield) and a 15% wage supplement for Alexandria.

The successful candidate will be exposed to the many facets of construction, operation, and maintenance of the Electrical Distribution System. If you enjoy the variety of challenging work outside of an office and want to develop communication, technical and mechanical abilities, the Ground Worker position may be an excellent starting point for a career with Dominion Energy. More specifically, the successful candidate will develop skills to prepare themselves for potential advancement in Line-work, Substation, Design or Dispatch areas. Must pass a health and physical assessment.

As an Electric Ground Worker, much of the work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions and is considered "heavy labor". Must be willing and able to work up to 300 hundred hours a year in overtime. Ability to respond within one hour of a call for overtime strongly preferred. Specific Ground Worker functions include but are not limited to the following activities:

• Providing tools, materials and supplies to journeyman line worker

• Ensuring safety rules and regulations are observed on the worksite

• Driving trucks and ensuring they are properly stocked and maintained

• Preparing the equipment and worksite for effective completion of assignments

• Operating various types of equipment used in the construction process (diggers, aerial devices, etc.)

• Assist Line Workers with preparing tools, equipment, and materials

• Ensure a strong focus on safety, following all safety rules, regulations and procedures

• Safely operate commercial motor vehicles ensuring they are stocked and maintained

• Perform all duties, as assigned

The selected candidate:

• Must be 18 years of age at the time of application.

• Must obtain a Class A CDL learner's permit within 1 month of employment and a CDL within 6 months of employment.

• Due to weight limits on equipment, weight restriction of 290 pounds applies.

*Upon completion of your pre-employment background and medical check, your first day of work will be at our Training Center in Chester, VA. You will attend Ground Worker training for a period of 4 weeks Dominion Energy’s expense.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Required Qualifications:

• Valid Drivers License

• 18 years of age or older

• GED or HS diploma required

• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis

• Ability to carry up to 60 pounds

• Ability to work on ladders and hydraulic lifts

• Ability to be on call and quickly respond for electrical restorations

• Ability to learn how to operate construction equipment and use hand tools

• Ability to promptly respond for emergency overtime callouts

• Computer application aptitude

• Ability to work within a physically demanding work environment

• A strong driving record which will allow the candidate to obtain a commercial driver’s license by the end of the fifth month of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prefer Class A or Class B CDL Dominion will provide and pay for CDL training. Please check your local DMV web site for eligibility requirements.

• Graduate from a Power Line Worker School or institution

• Prefer Class A CDL permit

• Prefer OSHA 10 or 30 certification

• Prefer certification in CPR, First Aid or AED

• Previous experience in working with mechanical or electrical concepts and applications

• Background in the military is a plus

• Background in construction or related work environments

• Background in working outdoors

Test Description

• This job requires "recommended" test results from Modern Hire Electric Ground Worker Virtual Job Tryout administered online. The assessment is untimed, but usually takes about 45 minutes to complete.

• Must pass a health and physical assessment.
