Position Summary:

CVS Health is seeking a highly skilled, and experienced Windows Infrastructure Operations Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is for a L3 engineer, who will provide expertise, support, and development for critical infrastructure components. This position is responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and modernizing both the physical and cloud environments for the Enterprise Windows Server infrastructure. The engineer will ensure the reliability, performance, optimization, and security of CVS Health's Windows server systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in Windows Server administration and infrastructure management

  • 3+ years of experience in private cloud technologies (e.g., Hyper-V, VMware) and experience in managing virtualized environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an on call, 24x7 environment

  • Experience in Windows Server OS, Active Directory, and Group Policy

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, MCSE, or similar certifications are a plus

  • Strong scripting and automation skills, particularly with PowerShell

  • Experience with Terraform, Ansible or other IAC tools preferred

Additional Responsibilities:

Operations:

  • Oversee the administration, monitoring, and maintenance of Windows server infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and high availability

  • Manage and troubleshoot physical and virtual servers, as well as cloud environments to resolve complex technical issues and implement proactive solutions

  • Administer current VMware ESXi environment and troubleshoot as appropriate

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and scalability of Windows infrastructure components

  • Accept server turnover for production, ensuring all Windows server standards are met

  • Provide L3 support for critical incidents, working to quickly diagnose and resolve issues that impact system availability

  • 24x7 on call support as L3 escalation for outage and critical incidents

  • Perform problem resolution and root cause analysis for critical incidents

  • Acts as liaison to vendor partners for advanced solutions

Security and Compliance:

  • Partner with the Vulnerability management team to implement and enforce security best practices, ensuring that Windows servers and associated services meet CVS Health's security and compliance standards

  • Collaborate with the Vulnerability management team to conduct regular vulnerability assessments and apply patches, updates, and security configurations to mitigate potential threats as needed

Performance Optimization and Capacity Management:

  • Continuously assess system performance and identify opportunities for improvement to enhance efficiency, scalability, and reliability

  • Analyze system logs, monitor resource utilization, and perform tuning to achieve optimal server performance

  • Develop and implement self healing solutions to increase uptime

  • Monitor infrastructure capacity to ensure that Windows server resources are effectively allocated and anticipate future infrastructure requirements

Backup and Recovery:

  • Work with the Backup and Recovery team to develop and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies for Windows server infrastructure, ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime

  • Perform routine backups and conduct recovery tests to verify the effectiveness of backup solutions

  • Participate in Disaster Recovery exercises throughout the year

Automation and Scripting:

  • Automate routine tasks and processes through scripting and automation tools to streamline operations and reduce manual intervention

  • Develop other IAC tools as appropriate to optimize the environment

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of server configurations, procedures, and policies

  • Share knowledge and expertise with junior team members, facilitating skill development and fostering a culture of continuous learning

Stakeholder Interaction:

  • Communicate with internal stakeholders to gather requirements, provide technical guidance, and manage expectation

  • Convey and document Windows expertise to all partners during critical outages

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or, equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$130,295.00 - $260,590.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
