Job Purpose
As a Field Safety Specialist, you will work to improve the overall safety culture and ensure compliance by implementing and maintaining National Grid’s safety programs. You will work closely with field personnel and develop positive professional relationships with all levels of management, represented employees, and contractors during all phases of operation. This is a field position encompassing worksites throughout the assigned area and will require daily travel to work sites. This position supports our electric business.
Key Accountabilities
Perform field visits to job sites to ensure compliance with Federal, State, Local regulations as well as National Grid policies and procedures
Investigate incidents, injuries, damage to property or other safety-related concerns
Cultivate safety and health skills and knowledge of frontline workers
Participate or lead Risk Assessment or Job Hazard Analysis teams
Review contractor Health and Safety Plans and suggest improvements before project kickoff
Act as subject matter expert for large project pre-job review, walk-through, planning and execution
Communicates safety and health information at employee and safety committee meetings
Post safety communications in various locations as needed
Inspect new processes, materials, tools, substances, and equipment to proactively identify hazards
Provide coverage for other team members who are out on vacation or leave
Be able to respond to emergency situations and play a key role in storm response
Develop positive, professional relationships with field personnel, all levels of leadership, outside agencies and the public
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Able to develop and build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Psychology, or related subject.
Have a thorough knowledge of all related OSHA regulations, DOT regulations, applicable ANSI standards,
At least 2 years of related experience where safety oversight and responsibility were at least 90% of the job duties
BCSP certification preferred (ASP, OHST, CHST, etc.)
Public speaking, training, and presentation skills
Strong influencing skills required
Negotiation skills
Critical thinking skills
Strong skills with organization, communication, and attention to detail
Must be self-starter with strong work ethic and ability to set and follow a daily/weekly schedule
Computer proficiency is essential
Valid driver’s license

Salary
$73,000-$86,000
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
