National Grid is hiring a Consultant, Renewable Energy Connections (CE/) for our Upstate NY Customer Energy Integration team. This role can be based in Albany NY, Utica NY, or Syracuse NY location.

Job Purpose

National Grid is looking for a customer-facing professional who will own and manage the relationship with Distributed Generation (DG) and Renewable Natural Gas applicants throughout the company's interconnection process. Successful candidates will have strong interpersonal, technical and project management skills. The successful candidate will enable customer sponsored RNG projects to be interconnected with consideration for customer experience, cost effectiveness, and technical requirements.

The professional will act as the customer's primary point of contact guiding them through regulatory, legislative, and technical obligations from the preliminary stages of complex RNG projects through interconnection. This includes obtaining and interpreting technical documentation, assisting customers with evaluating the feasibility of projects, performing preliminary screenings/feasibility reviews, coordinating for detailed studies, drafting contractual agreements, and facilitating interconnections with multitude internal and external stakeholders throughout the application and construction process.

As a DG subject matter expert, the candidate will also be expected to provide outreach and educate others on RNG initiatives. This position may also assist with electrical interconnections as necessary.

Key Accountabilities - Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Independently conduct outreach to potential RNG generators at seminars, discussion groups, internal and external meetings, and other opportunities as they arise while effectively representing National Grid. This may include the American Biogas Conference, RNG Coalition and the Northeast Biosolids and Residuals Association (NEBRA)

  • Maintain relationships with internal departments including Future of Heat

  • Assist Future of Heat team with administrative requirements for new projects

  • Plan and conduct internal development calls for RNG project interconnections

  • Manage the RNG intake process, maintain the RNG interconnection list

  • Manage projects with customers, external vendors, contractors and consultants to ensure timely delivery of utility services and completion of the project.

  • Maintain work management system and update procedures to support the design solutions that enhance RNG programs.

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with network strategy, account development, inside and outsides sales, regulatory, energy product & program management, jurisdictional teams and external vendors in order to facilitate communications, integrate work and ensure the successful delivery of company's products and programs.

  • Challenge existing policies and procedures to continuously seek ways to enhance customer service and cost-effectiveness.

  • Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure timely delivery of RNG projects per applicable guidance and internal policies.

  • Provide technical guidance, support and coaching to others, (both internally and externally) in order to share knowledge and increase understanding of RNG programs and services.

  • Analyze and evaluate developments in RNG and Renewable Energy technologies in order to identify impact of different scenarios on the business and strategies for integrating cost efficiencies.

  • Ensure projects are following appropriate accounting procedures.

  • Negotiate, develop and administer all aspects of interconnection related agreements.

  • Update and maintain company websites with latest program information.

  • Represent National Grid as needed in various industry associations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil or Chemical engineering or related field

  • 7+ years of work experience in the gas Utility industry or similar environment with customer facing responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated Project Management experience, PMP certification Preferred. PE, DGCP desired

  • Demonstrated knowledge of RNG and Natural Gas system design practices and installation standards

  • Knowledge or willing to understand various regulatory policies and interconnection related standards

  • Able to read schematics, one-lines and recommend/oversee changes to documentation.

  • Working knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) or ability to be trained

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office software products

  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to develop proficiency with NY tariffs, especially as they relate to Distributed Generation and RNG

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret information and analyze relationships among several parts of a problem or situation in order to clearly articulate findings and anticipates obstacles and next steps

  • Understand theory behind policies and processes and demonstrated ability to challenge existing processes and ways of working e.g. taking action to avoid future crisis or create opportunities

  • Prior work experience in reviewing and discussing CHP/RNG feasibility reviews, system impact studies and working successfully with internal and external stakeholders preferred

  • Understands the importance of procedures and standards of working and demonstrated ability to give directions or demonstrations with clear reasons and rationales.

  • Be a coordinator for technical RNG items that may arise with the National Grid customer base

  • Good knowledge of RNG system design practices and installation standards or ability to learn

  • Valid Driver's license is required

Salary

$99,000 - $116,000 a year
