TITLE: Managing Director for Accountability

OFFICE: SUNY Charter Schools Institute

FUNCTION & SCOPE: The SUNY Charter Schools Institute is responsible for evaluating proposals for new charter schools, and for the continuous monitoring of student academic performance, fiscal soundness, and overall school operations of 220+ SUNY Authorized charter schools. The Managing Director for Accountability leads the Accountability and Evaluation Teams.

INSTITUTE LEADERSHIP

The Managing Director for Accountability reports directly to the Institute's Executive Director and contributes to the Institute's overall mission and strategy as a member of the Institute's Leadership Team. The successful candidate will:

  • Define, contribute to, and build a commitment and sense of urgency to the mission and priorities of the Institute;

  • Define high academic performance standards for all SUNY authorized charter schools and lead the Institute's mixed methods approach to school evaluation;

  • Represent the Institute and its mission to the SUNY Trustees, SUNY leadership, New York charter school community, and nationally;

  • Ensure smooth collaboration and cross-team coordination of workflow to support charter school oversight and authorizer decision-making throughout the school year;

  • Guide the lnstitute's Digital Transformation efforts on academic information to enable analysis, reporting and sharing to multiple audiences including the SUNY Trustees' Charter Schools Committee.

TEAM LEADERSHIP

The Accountability and Evaluation Teams are responsible for the collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data and information necessary to successfully conduct the required academic oversight of the Institute's 220+ charter schools. The successful candidate will:

  • Set vision and provide support and coaching to Academic Teams to build cohesiveness and connection to the larger Institute team.

  • Define, direct, interpret, and disseminate school accountability authorizing work of SUNY's Charter Schools Institute.

  • Define and oversee the systems and structures for the monitoring and evaluation of SUNY authorized charter schools.

  • Ensure timely, high quality quantitative and qualitative analysis and reporting of SUNY authorized charter school performance.

  • Ensure Accountability Plans coincide with the Institute's policies for school evaluation and support its mission to ensure high academic performance. Oversee the development of charter school accountability plans for all schools authorized by SUNY Board of Trustees.

  • Meet with SUNY authorized charter school boards and leaders to ensure their understanding of accountability plan goals and performance and the schools track record of meeting those goals.

  • Participate in the analysis of new school applications to ensure fidelity to high quality evaluation protocols as a hallmark of the lnstitute's work.

    Job Requirements:

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Data Science, Public Policy/Administration, Statistics, or other relevant field and 7+ years' progressively responsible work; equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

  • Supervisory and team leadership experience required

  • Must demonstrate strong organizational, multi-tasking, communication, and project management skills.

  • Highly proficient in an electronic environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Charter school experience in evaluation, oversight and/or authorizing practices.

  • Advanced degree preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Stata, R, Python, or other analogous analytic software

LOCATION/SALARY: Salary depending on location and experience:

  • Albany, NY ($150,000-$160,000)

  • NYC ($165,000-$175,000)

Hybrid work schedule.
