Manager of Clinical Engineering

Location: Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, NY

The Manager of Clinical Engineering is responsible for the day to day oversight and direction of the Clinical Engineering group of 15-20 FTE’s in a complex healthcare environment. Through the management of staff, the incumbent will provide technology and clinical support to AMC, develop and implement clinical technology and application development projects and manage all routine maintenance activities. This position requires the incumbent to define budget and training requirements for his or her program area, report and manage work schedules and risks and provide leadership to staff. Additionally, the incumbent will facilitate and coordinate activities with the AMC business and technology community, participate on program planning teams and proactively develop and manage the development of clinical engineering efforts, policies and procedures and methods. Will be able to manage 4-6 concurrent projects. Specific areas of focus are safety, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in clinical, biomedical or electrical engineering.

  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years of experience, with an emphasis on clinical technology planning, implementation, support.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the daily operations of the Department of Clinical Engineering in a manner consistent with established AMC policies and in compliance with applicable regulations and accepted industry practices.

  • Manages all departmental personnel, including assigning work, scheduling on-call, approving overtime and leave requests, and completing annual PARS reviews.

  • Maintains the safety and quality of the Medical Equipment Management Program.

  • Maintains the fiscal integrity of the Department by controlling costs.

  • Serves as a core member of the following AMC teams:

  • Environment of Care Team

  • Impact Analysis Committee

  • Occupational Health and Safety Committee (Main and SCC)

  • Laser Safety Committee

  • Relocations Committee

  • Technology Assessment Committee

  • Value Analysis Core Team

  • Manages the operational aspects of the AMC Medical Equipment Management program.

  • Assists in coordinates the budgeting, evaluation and selection of medical technology and medical technology services.

  • Manages the installation of medical equipment and systems including all work performed by contractors and vendors.

  • Manages staff development, educational and in-service training programs.

  • Represents AMC in operational relationships with medical equipment manufacturers and service vendors.

  • Works cooperatively with all user groups and affected IT units to coordinate plans and activities including development projects that involve clinical technology, the coordination of upgrades and the installation of new products.

  • Provides cyclic and ad hoc reports on activity status, performance to budget, as well as forecasts of resource utilization.

  • Perform other duties or assignments as designated by management.
