The Information Technology Project Manager will coordinate and monitor projects or programs from initiation through delivery. Focus is on meeting project commitments, including communicating with staff, sponsors, stakeholders, etc. This position spends significant time on project management responsibilities and will lead or assist in the planning, implementation and introduction of projects for new systems, technologies, and software ranging from electronic health record related systems and healthcare billing systems to enterprise resource planning systems and internet/web applications.

Responsibilities include leading the overall management activities of project(s) through all phases of the development lifecycle, leveraging Albany Med’s project methodology that includes, but is not limited to:

• planning

• gather requirements

• design goals, objectives, and scope

• testing (all phases)

• implementation

• transition to operations

The Information Technology Project Manager also serves as the liaison between technical and non-technical departments in order to ensure that all targets and requirements are met and projects are completed on schedule and within budget.

The Information Technology Project Manager – Level IV will:

  • Ensure standard operating procedures and project guidelines are in place

  • Create, modify and allocate tasks to team members and monitor performance of tasks

  • Develop and modify project scheduling and resource management

  • Provide planning, budgeting and reporting on projects

  • Develop and manage annual budgets for information technology projects

  • Make presentations on project status, present monthly and annual reports to senior management

  • Meet with client teams and gather requirements, conduct regular team meetings and track project progress

  • Participate in candidate interviews

  • Confer with project personnel to identify and resolve problems

  • Negotiate with project stakeholders or suppliers to obtain resources or materials

  • Establish and execute a project communication plan

  • Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends

  • Initiate, review, or approve modifications to project plans

  • Estimate project budgets, coordinate with IT peers for funding and plan for purchasing of equipment and hardware in a cost-effective way

  • Provide an efficient working atmosphere for project teams and ensure objectives are met within stipulated time

  • Schedule and facilitate meetings related to information technology projects

  • Identify need for initial or supplemental project resources

  • Manage project execution to ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and scope

  • Monitor or track project milestones and deliverables

  • Identify, review, or select vendors or consultants to meet project needs

  • Direct or coordinate activities of project personnel

  • Develop and manage work breakdown structure (WBS) of information technology projects

  • Perform risk assessments to develop response strategies

  • Submit project deliverables, ensuring adherence to quality standards

  • Monitor the performance of project team members, providing and documenting performance feedback

  • Assess current or future customer needs and priorities through communicating directly with customers, conducting surveys, or other methods

  • Develop implementation plans that include analyses such as cost-benefit or return on investment (ROI)

  • Develop or update project plans for information technology projects including information such as project objectives, technologies, systems, information specifications, schedules, funding, and staffing

Supervision

  • This is a non-managerial role, however, individuals in this role may be expected to supervise projects of any size, project teams, and/or technical processes

Contact with others

  • Primary contacts will be internal to Information Technology

  • Contact with other Albany Med departments will be moderate and in support of job specific activities or in the supervision of projects - potentially lead and/or facilitate conversations with customers on requirements. Be able to present solutions and findings to customers and executives

  • Contact with vendors will be expected in support of problem resolution or future product functionality - may engage in product development strategy discussions

  • Contact with others outside Albany Med will consist of engagement in job specific forums/organizations for technical collaboration, as well as an expectation to collaborate with other health care organizations for best practices and knowledge sharing

Other

  • Provide on-call, extended weekday and weekend support for on-site and off-site locations, as warranted by critical business requirements

  • Adapt to changing work priorities and a fast-paced environment while maintaining a professional attitude

  • Maintain confidentiality at all times

  • Work independently on projects and ask for support when necessary

  • Work additional hours as needed

  • Perform at or above the Information Technology performance standards

  • Fulfill department requirements in terms of providing work coverage and administration notification during periods of absence (personnel illness, vacation, education, etc.)

Perform other duties or assignments as designated by management
