Albany Medical Center Forensic Medicine Coordinator in Albany, New York

Salary range : $71,547.00 - $118,053.00

Coordinate, support, and enhance existing forensic programs at Albay Med, building infrastructure and alliances with appropriate non-profit and state agencies to promote consistent, professional and victim-oriented medical and forensic response and treatment of acute sexual assault victims and victims of violence.

Qualifications:

Education, Licensure, and Certification Required:

Registered Nurse who has completed a NYS 40-hour DOH Certified SANE training and has an interest in promoting forensic nursing.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Master’s in nursing preferred. Previous supervisory experience, teaching, or leadership experience

Demonstrates ability to interact with multidisciplinary teams, communicate program needs, and work with peers to establish smooth functioning.

Experience:

3-5 years of Sexual Assault Nurse experience

  • The Forensic Coordinator meets all S.A.N.E. qualifications to participate in on call rotation. Additionally, the coordinator will interact with multidisciplinary persons/departments to ensure that the program functions smoothly.

  • In collaboration with the Division of Forensic Medicine SAFE program manager and Forensic Medical Director the ability to train interested residents, nurses, mid-levels and MD’s to standardize the care delivered to victims of violence

  • Ensuring competencies for the forensic examiner sexual assault examiner are current and stay up to date

  • Scheduling the SAEs-, ensuring their commitment is fulfilled

  • Compiling data collection, trends, etc. for grant funding with Medical Director

  • Responsible for maintaining forensic equipment and supplies

  • Responsible for the Chain of Custody for the evidence collected, and storage of equipment

  • Arrange training classes for SAEs- as required

  • Oversee peer review of documentation, providing feedback for quality improvement

  • Conduct staff meetings for process improvement quarterly

  • Ensures the proper criteria are met in caring for victims of violence, in accordance with NYSDOH, International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) and Joint Commission standards of Excellence

  • Attend community outreach meetings i.e. area SART, DCJSAE, NYCASA, and communicates back the initiatives at staff meetings

  • Coordinates Community outreach training

  • Remain on the schedule for FNE cases, as needed, to stay current

  • Continued involvement in open cases from beginning to end, including follow up from law enforcement, crime lab, and DA office

  • Performs Audit review of sexual assault documentation, providing feedback to examiners on each case

  • Assisting with organizing community events for examiners to attend

  • Providing examiners with dates for conferences that are local as well as in other states to attend

  • Creates a monthly newsletter to keep examiners up to date with changes/equipment/case review

  • Works with Medical Director to establish pediatric and adult documentation is standardized

  • Meets with the lab to stay current with process of pediatric SA collection and obtaining of cultures, quality review
