Job Description

Job Summary:

Communicates with patients and staff to accurately schedule patients for prescribed procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Gathers necessary demographic and clinical information from patient and enters into appropriate database. Seeks appropriate resources to resolve issues about the type, date or location of prescribed procedures.

  • Schedules patient procedures in a manner that most efficiently utilizes the patient's time and clinical resources.

  • Assists with coordination of activities related to insurance pre-certification/authorization.

  • Provides counseling to patient or patient's representative regarding pre-service requirements and instructions.

  • May create patient financial file in core scheduling and/or registration system by – accurately and thoroughly collecting, analyzing, and recording demographic, insurance, financial data in computer system in compliance with departmental quality standards.

  • May initiate electronic inquiries to payers and obtains eligibility and benefit information, creates patient payment estimates, explains information to patient and collects patient out of pocket expenses at registration. May reconcile cash drawers daily and follows department procedure for logging and submitting deposits.

  • Uses multi-line telephone system to answer and screen calls. Schedules appointments. Verifies information (spelling of name, phone number, etc.) Takes accurate telephone messages and promptly gives information to appropriate parties.

Qualifications

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

  • Minimum Qualification: None Required

Education:

  • HS or Equivalent

  • High school diploma or equivalent required Post high school education preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting, and/or medical office or insurance setting preferred.
