National Grid Principal Development Engineer in Warwick, United Kingdom

About the role

Join us and deliver a cleaner, greener future through offshore hybrid projects.

National Grid Interconnectors (https://www.nationalgrid.com/national-grid-ventures/interconnectors-connecting-cleaner-future) is at the heart of UK’s transition to our net zero energy future. We operate several HVDC interconnectors that connect the UK’s energy system to some of our closest neighbours, allowing energy to be imported to and exported from the UK. As well as already owning a portfolio of HVDC Interconnectors, we’re working on developing new projects to ensure that we can meet the UK’s future demands for greener energy solutions.

As a Principal Development Engineer, you'll be responsible for the technical development of new interconnector projects looking at onshore and offshore cables and converter stations. This is a fantastic opportunity supporting projects from early concept development through to procurement and delivery. You will fulfil relevant CDM requirements and co-ordination of subcontractors. In addition to working with internal stakeholders this role will involve working in co-ordination with our European partners in the development of detailed project requirements.

This includes projects such as LionLink (https://www.nationalgrid.com/national-grid-ventures/future-developments/lionlink) - a first-of-its-kind electricity link to connect offshore wind between the UK and the Netherlands, and Nautilus (https://www.nationalgrid.com/national-grid-ventures/interconnectors-connecting-cleaner-future/nautilus-interconnector) - a new multi-purpose interconnector combining offshore wind generation with interconnector capacity between the UK and Belgium. So if you're driven by solving the big questions of tomorrow - join us, and bring energy to life!

This role is based from Warwick and you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home. There is also the potential for international travel as required.
