JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Financial Accounting Analyst. Reporting to the Section Head, the Senior Financial Accounting Analyst will be responsiblefor processing and reviewing month-end accrual journals, meticulously identifying, and resolving any issues associated with the processes, journals, and accrual reports. Attention to detail and analytical skills will be essential in maintaining accuracy in financial reporting. The successful candidate will verify generation and trading revenue this involves confirming the accuracy of revenue allocations and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The successful candidate willanalyze the changes required to existing systems, processes and reports due to introduction of new products, market rules, accounting rules and regulations.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Process owner for generation and trading revenue transactions and reporting. This includes preparing monthly reports to Senior Management and preparing ad-hoc information requests from both internal and external sources. The information managed is high-profile, requiring a deep understanding of accounting principles and energy market rules. Ensure accurate and timely reporting while also supporting informed decision-making.

  2. Responding to the development, maintenance and evaluation of financial policies, procedures, and systems to satisfy Line of Business Units and Corporate Function financial needs in the areas of financial accounting and reporting, management accounting and reporting, financial model application development and maintenance, cost of power application, and internal control.

  3. Participate in the maintenance of a consistent framework for accounting activities across the Corporation in areas such as the financial system development and maintenance, business transaction analysis; accounting recognition; related party transactions and financial account identification and maintenance; and financial statement presentation and disclosure.

  4. Provide support to management on a Corporate-wide basis in areas related to the application of financial accounting policies and procedures, financial and management accounting recognition, and reporting. Ensure work activities comply with applicable policies, IESO market rules, practices, standards, and guidelines.

  5. Maintain and monitor unique accounting applications in support of special agreements/contracts with the IESO and OEB.

  6. Oversee and reconcile Energy Trading activities that integrate with financial processes with a clear consideration of internal control implications.

  7. Verify and reconcile financial data across multiple ledgers to ensure accuracy and consistency in financial reporting.

  8. Create and manage control reports for SAP-entered journals and distribute reports to end users.

  9. Other Duties as Required

EDUCATION

  • 4 year University degree in a business discipline (ie. Accounting, Commerce, Economics) and with the achievement of a recognized professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA or CMA)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flxible hybrid office environment.

  • 8 years of relevant work experience

  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation and analysis of consolidated balance sheets and operating accounts, cashflows, and year-over-year analysis of various accounts, to support the consolidated financial statements.

  • Experience with IFRS and/or US GAAP, identifying key issues and assessing alternative solutions.

  • Experience using large financial or integrated enterprise systems such as SAP Finance Modules.
