The opportunity:

The OHS/WSIB Consultant provides Occupational Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation advisory consulting and paralegal services to corporate clients across Canada in a variety of sectors and industries. This position at KPMG Law LLP allows the candidate to work in a challenging position, accept responsibility, work independently, and work with Canada’s leading OHS lawyer, Norm Keith, LL.M. CRSP. Some travel, court, and administrative tribunal appearances are required.

You will gain valuable experience in understanding how OHS and Workers’ Compensation legislation, regulations and compliance policies are developed, interpreted and enforced across Canada. You will also have opportunities to work in the overlapping areas of employment, labour, and human rights law and advisory services.

What you will do

  • Provide OHS compliance & consulting services to corporate clients across Canada

  • Workers’ Compensation claims management, appeal preparation and appeal advocacy

  • Develop and present OHS, Workers’ Compensation, and related training courses & seminars

  • Develop and implement OHS and workers’ employer compensation management systems

  • Conduct health and safety legislative & regulatory compliance audits and investigations

  • Investigate and prepare reports into workplace incidents, work refusals, and reprisal cases

  • Preparing appeals of OHS regulatory orders, work refusals, and reprisal cases

  • Conduct OHS/WSIB litigation preparation, witness interviews and report writing for lawyers

  • Participating in regular client contact, professional services and business development

  • Work as a member of the national KPMG team providing excellent client service

  • Help develop new and innovative client OHS and WSIB services

What you bring to the role

  • An applicable college/university-level diploma/degree

  • Current CRSP and/or Certified Health and Safety Consultant

  • Current member of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering

  • Registered paralegal with the Law Society of Ontario

  • Minimum of five years of related experience

  • OHS training experience and a passion for prevention and safety training

  • Experience with workers’ compensation claims management, objections and appeals

  • Good working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act, regulations and Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and WSIB Operational Policies

  • Excellent analytical, oral and written communication and report writing skills

  • Entrepreneurial flair and business development skills

  • Must be eligible to work in Canada

  • Willingness to travel throughout Canada and has valid driver’s license

  • Bilingual in English and French (written and oral) preferred
