Amec Foster Wheeler Project Manager / Scientist in San Diego, California

Amec Foster Wheeler is looking for motivated team-oriented individuals to help develop and launch a new environmental business laboratory start-up at Amec Foster Wheeler in San Diego, CA. All positions will require schedule flexibility and a desire to take on the exciting challenge of building a successful laboratory from the ground up. Innovative ideas, curiosity, and a strong work ethic will be required for this exciting opportunity.

Ideal candidates will have experience conducting aquatic environmental assessment projects in California with an emphasis in aquatic toxicology. Experience working in a toxicology laboratory, and a strong understanding of local and national permitting programs, QA/QC, TIEs/TREs, and statistics is desired. Strong communication and writing skills are required for all positions.

The position require candidates to have familiarity with local NPDES programs, the Clean Water Act Sections 401 and 404; the Porter-Cologne Act; the Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act; the Coastal Zone Management Act; Stormwater programs; and other applicable local, state, and federal regulations and guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing both technical and financial aspects of toxicity testing or other similar projects

  • Project scheduling/ coordination with clients and the lab

  • Testing set-up and maintenance

  • Analyzing laboratory data and preparing study reports

  • Interfacing and coordinating with existing and potential clients

  • As-needed field support

  • Assembling teams of internal staff, specialty subconsultants, and analytical laboratories

  • Preparing technical and cost proposals

  • Participating in regional and national scientific organizations

  • Training/ mentoring junior staff

  • 10+ years of experience

  • B.S. or M.S. in Aquatic Sciences, Toxicology, Chemistry, Ecology, or Watershed Management
