Team & Job Overview:

As the Senior User Experience (UX) Designer at EDC, you will play a pivotal role in transforming our public website into a world-class digital experience. Reporting to the Director of Customer Experience (CX), you will be embedded within the Web Experience Team, supporting their efforts to enhance the digital experience for Canadian businesses pursuing international business opportunities.

With your strong experience in B2B, your fine balance of creativity, empathy for humans and analytic mindset pushes you to constantly improve the overall customer experience and influence your peers (including other UX Designers) to deliver more engaging digital experiences. Leveraging agile delivery principles, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality designs that meet the needs of our customers and align with EDC’s business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning & UX Strategy:

  • Execute a comprehensive UX/UI strategy aligned with EDC’s business objectives and customer needs.

  • Lead the design strategy and execution for the redesign of edc.ca and its growth.

  • Ensure a healthy pipeline of short and mid-longer design initiatives that will help drive innovation.

  • Collaborate closely with UX Research Lead to leverage research findings and insights in the design process. Conduct user research, competitive analysis, and usability testing to inform design decisions and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, marketers, and developers to define project scope, goals, and deliverables.

  • Work within the UX Community of Practice and play a key role in development and documentation of EDC’s Design System.

UX Design:

  • Lead the end-to-end design process, from wireframing and prototyping to visual design and implementation.

  • Create user-centered wireframes and high-resolution designs that prioritize simplicity, clarity, and ease of use across web and mobile platforms.

  • Collaborate with UXR in user research, competitive analysis, and usability testing to inform design decisions and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Leverage customer personas, customer journey maps, service blueprints and interaction flows to guide the design process and ensure alignment with user needs.

  • Design visually engaging and intuitive user interfaces that enhance the overall user experience and reflect EDC’s brand identity.

  • Work effectively in an agile environment to deliver product increments and ensure that requirements are met.

  • Lead prototyping and run user testing on constant basis to confirm the feasibility and usability of features to be built.

  • Collaborate with developers to translate designs into pixel-perfect interfaces, ensuring consistency and quality across all digital touchpoints.

  • Leverage design systems and component libraries to maintain design consistency and scalability across projects.

Accessibility & Inclusivity:

  • Ensure that all digital experiences are accessible to users of all abilities, in compliance with accessibility standards such as WCAG.

  • Conduct accessibility audits and remediation efforts to identify and address potential barriers to access for users with disabilities.

  • Advocate for accessibility best practices and raise awareness of accessibility issues within the organization.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including designers, developers, product managers, and stakeholders, to deliver high-quality design solutions.

  • Communicate design concepts, rationale, and trade-offs effectively to stakeholders, gaining buy-in and alignment on design decisions.

  • Act as a thought leader and advocate for user-centered design principles and best practices within the organization.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in UX/UI design, preferably in a B2B or enterprise environment.

  • Experience in mobile-first design with deep knowledge of responsive design, breakpoints and viewport sizes.

  • Experience with UX research and testing.

  • Advanced capabilities in design tools such as Figma, Axure, Adobe XD, or similar.

  • Proficiency in web design including user flows, component design and styles.

  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, interaction design, and information architecture.

  • Knowledge of B2B digital marketing strategies and demand generation tactics.

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and working in cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively.

  • Experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) or similar CMS platforms is a plus.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of analytics tools such as Adobe Analytics.

  • Certification in accessibility (e.g., CPACC, WAS).

  • Familiarity with web programming languages such as HTML.

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French.

Salary Range:

  • UX/UI Designer 18: Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $92,355 to $123,140.

Location

  • Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.

  • This role may be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa, or from the Community Hub in Toronto or Montreal.
